In most ways, yes. I miss the Les Miles that wasn't so damn conservative though.

Better recruiter for sure

He has gotten scared though. Dude used to let jimbo and crowton do whatever the frick they wanted on offense. After 2008 he said frick that shite and went super conservative mode

His recruiting has gotten better (though it was never bad) and his clock management has certainly improved. Other than that he is the same coach, just more conservative than he used to be. I think if he gets a QB he believes in he will open it up more though.

He has the recruiting aspect down. That is honestly more than half the battle is just having the talent, and this last class (keeping Fournette in state) was huge for the future of the program. Playcalling is more conservative than GW Bush, however.

Overall, he is solid, but will look horrible compared to the GOAT in the same division.

Really, it's hard to say. He did a brilliant job managing the team post-Katrina. The way he handled that showed the AD he was a keeper. If anything, he now is in a position of maintaining and building over several years, instead of just going game-to-game.

His recruiting has gotten better, his teams are virtually the exact same though with that better talent, so I'd say no. As an opposing coach, he scares me less than he used to. And frankly, he used to do more with less than he does now with more talent. 2007 less would've killed it with last year's team and, I think, found a way to do so this year as well. I think Les is just too damn stubborn offensively to be a truly great coach. He's so close though.

I agree with this completely.. I believe the change is more about building and looking ahead. It's as if he doesn't need to prove anything, just maintain, which is why the more conservative approach. I also agree that his confidence in the QB determines how open the play book gets.

How long as he going to "maintain?" Because he's lost ground in Ws/Ls and the standings each of the last three years and you don't have time to do that in the SEC West. shite, Arkansas didn't win it's first game in almost two years until November and they'll be picked top half of the division next year.

Les is one of those coaches who is literally one or two things away from rising to GOAT-level like saban/meyer.

Unfortunately we're consistently hurting in qb/offense, and that is something terribly hard to look past. You have to score to win games.

Is he better? Given our consistent issues in same areas year after year, I don't think so. If he showed more willingness to adapt, I'd have a different opinion.

So he's arguably that close to joining the elite if he could only do the most important thing a football team could do, score? Dang, so close.
