I think they get to 20 but it will have to be the right 20 just to get on the bubble. SEC is slowly becoming a real good conference again.

Not saying no chance, but it's highly unlikely. If we can finish OOC play at 9-3 which would be really solid, I see us winning anywhere between 5-8 conference games. I'd say 17, maybe 18 wins is the peak for this team in regular season.

No, the SEC is too tough this season. I think this team is a 5-8 conference wins type of team, which is an improvement from one year ago. It's not enough to carry them to 20 wins though.

I think we can win out in the non conference, getting us to 10-2
conference wise if can defend the home court and steal 1-2 on the road I think 9-9 would be graet

a lot of brake pumping needs to go on in this thread. i love that this team is improved and it's fun watching lsu bball again. didn't watch one second of lsu bball last season and i've already watched every game and been to 3.
having said that, i've watched the sec closely so far and it's insanely good - #1 rpi. i honestly don't know who lsu can beat in conference. i can only point to some candidates; auburn, state, vandy, georgia, ole miss and maybe scar. the rest are just at a different level right now. of course a team can have an off night shooting but that's what it would take.
wade is basically working a bball miracle with this team and it's incredibly exciting. beat houston without sampson, reath on the bench, atrocious shooting percentage and some wacky calls.

Yeah, I think we'd have to win out the rest of OOC, which is doable, but go 10-8 in the SEC which I don't think is.
The SEC is as strong as it's been in 10 years and we start off right of the bat with the tough ones.
I think 17-18 wins is doable. Anything else IMHO would be a true overachievement...unlike CJJ's first year when the conference was about as bad as it has ever been so just because we weren't that great, some assumed it to be overachieving....it was not.
9-9 or better in the SEC as it is now, with the kids we have, would definitely be an overachievement IMHO.

quote:absolutely and my doubt has nothing to do with wade. he's incredible. the sec is just ridiculously good this year. the tigers are getting better but the conference w/l record might not reflect it because the other teams are further along in the process.

i keep getting blown away by this thought - THIS lsu team is probably the WORST team in the conference! and this team is absolutely not a bad team. that is crazy

Tigers' Real Time RPI rocketed upward by 44 positions over night, to 122, thanks to beating Houston.
Now it's a stretch to say they're a 20 win tournament team, and conference play looks like a sticky wicket thanks to increased SEC strength. However, you have to like what you see so far: a good corps of well coached players with a focussed desire to win.

We're gonna need some breaks go our way...kinda like last night......and stay healthy.
If this happens.....yea...we could def win 20.

I have not seen every team in the SEC, but I actually think we have some pretty talented kids and some of them from last year, I just think folks think they have no talent because of what they saw last year and there were issues then that made them look much worse than they actually were.
And Waters is legit, I doubt there are more than 2-3 PG's now in the SEC (if that many) who are better than him.
We're definitely not the most talented team, but when Sampson comes back I also don't think we're the least talented.

That may be true, but LSU is still a pretty good team and will compete against the best teams in the conference. Man, some of these teams, Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee and Arky look really, really strong. And Mizzou as well.

Defensively LSU is the worst team in the SEC and it's not even really close. I think that has been the lone/biggest disappointment thus far. Not because I expected LSU to be a lock-down defensive team, but to be this poor despite Wade putting so much emphasis on that side of the ball from day 1 is a bit surprising. It's going to be VERY tough to win in the SEC (particularly on the road) if they don't improve.
On the flip-side the offensive efficiency has been incredible. I thought LSU might have some issues scoring this season, but so far that hasn't been a problem at all. They are 3rd in the country in FG%.
Right now it's really a team of polar opposites. Very good offensively, but very bad defensively. The defenses night in and night out are going to be MUCH tougher once SEC play starts. Thus, I think you are going to see the offensive numbers naturally slide a bit. The question is if they can improve defensively?
The one good thing is effort is not a problem. As long as you are playing hard you give yourself a chance to get better on the defensive end once the communication and positioning get better.

Waters leads the SEC in Assists and Steals and is 5th in scoring. I'd say he's legit for sure. If this team had one more big body sown low they could be a legitimate threat.

We are bad on defense but he’s still tinkering with the rotation and when Rachel and Sims are out there we defend a little better because we’re quicker. The difference maker with us is we have great depth at guard and we have a special player. Having Waters is going to win close games a team like ours normally wouldn’t be able to pull off. Sampson’s return will be huge for us too and once conference starts your guard play really comes to the surface and in that position we have advantages over a lot of teams that seem better than us right now. I don’t think we’re going to blow through the league but we can win 20 and make a run at the bubble.

I want to believe but the SEC is as strong as it’s been in a long time. I think 7-11 is the most likely conference record.

We are in the same post Michigan spot we were a few weeks ago. Can’t y’all understand? We will win some games we shouldn’t. Play tough in a lot of games. Competeting sith Kentucky this season really is enough tbh. Everybody heard the female announcer last night and all of a sudden we are beating Kentucky and finishing 12-6 in sec
Posted on 12/14/17 at 3:50 pm to TigerOne
It will be close. SEC is stronger this year. We get a couple quality wins on the road then we can make it.

With USL's Schedule: YES...25+
With a real/SEC Schedule: Probably
We are well on our way and this will be a team that continues to evolved, emerge and improve....
You have to be impressed with our guards...they ALL have to learn to play rigorous D!!

quote:absolutely no doubt in my mind. i think he's as good as any guard in the league; chiozza, sexton. his stock will rise rapidly once lsu plays some ranked conference teams. people will start to witness how great he is
And Waters is legit
quote:not sure about that. i can't say with confidence there is a team that has less talent. that's what's so great about how wade has this team playing. very few people know what a miracle he's doing because lsu is so far under the radar
when Sampson comes back I also don't think we're the least talented.
