Is it possible to change offense philosophy at this point?

All through spring and fall we have been coached that we are just going to run straight at defenses and over power them. We thought we were going to have an overpowering o-line, great running backs, and inexperienced QB's and WR's that we could not rely on. Since that formula is not going to work, how hard would it be to shift to spread offense, use a true freshman QB, and more involve true freshman WR's? Can a whole offense philosophy be scrapped and a new one installed in just two weeks?

Hasn't been changed for 10 years so I'd say no.

It's simple:

Put harris in and let er rip

They have the talent out wide.

I think we need to go 3 wide with a TE, sometimes 4 wide no TE, and a RB. Dural and Dupre on the outside with Quinn/Diarse in the slot, run against the now-spread out defense. If they stack the box, we make a quick easy throw.

Its what the sport in general, not just college football, is going toward. Go where the defense isn't, and we don't do that.

Miles like to play right into the defense's strength and make it a battle of wills rather than use any intellect to out scheme the opponent.

We made somewhat of a move towards opening it up last night in that we didn't line up in the jumbo very much and try to run straight at them every time on 1st and 2nd down. We just didn't go far enough with spreading out the offense until it was to late.

It hurts so much to read this, but I am inclined to agree.

Not hard at all considering every single skill player has played in a spread before, because they you know, play football. But it's not like it's gonna change. I like to think that Cam was screaming into Miles ear to do something different and Miles just shut him out.

Harris just fits the system we need to go to much better than Jennings. Harris is inexperienced and needs more time to physically develop, but he is just a much more dynamic player and we need that right now.

doubt that. Cam was fired from Baltimore during the season largely for running a Miles like offense scheme.

Yeah.
No, it's it highly unlikely to change.
First, because Leslie is not inclined to change it.
He is a run- first guy who has never seen an opponent's defense which didn't call for a scheme to run right at them. He like athe carpenter who solves all problems with a hammer and a nail.
And, here's the rub that some refuse to acknowledge: It has served him extremely well to have these prejudices, b/c he wins more than the other 90%.

The problem is 1) sometimes we have won DESPITE Les and 2) the game, our opponents and our personnel change.
We are not talentled or experienced enough this year to win despite the handicaps of a poor scheme going into a game.
Nor do we have an experienced QB to bail us out at the end, at least in SEC competition.

Well, he almost did bail us out. Was just to late. Inexperienced or not, Harris has talent that looks like it was made for a more spread out offense. Thing is, we can still pound the ball while spreading out the offense.

You don't have to or need to change "offensive philopshies" to achieve the same result.

We have an excellent backfield. We should be running the football. If we ditch the I and start running 3WR, we can still run out of a single back set. But you can encourage the defense to not load 8-9 in the box, or to do so at their peril. I don't care if you've got the best o-line on the country; having success running against that over and over again is hard.

We had success running against Wisky in the 2nd half this way. We can still achieve the same result but do so in a way that makes more sense.
