As bad as it was is now more of a reflection of how any coach is setup to fail in Oxford. In other words, would you put the opportunity of being the Rebels head coach in the same conversation with LSU in regards to resources, recruiting and fan support?

That was a rhetorical question. To date Ole Miss is still the only SEC west team from the original split in 1992 to never get to Atlanta. Look how Tommy Tubs flourished at Auburn once he escaped Ole Miss. And Hugh Freeze saw this and had to brake every recruiting rule in the book to get them relevant which ended up costing him his job.

Sometimes we have to let these things play out before we pass judgement on any coach we label as a failure. I say this because the venom spat at Orgeron for winning 9 games in his first full season last year was embarrassing to look back on.

Whatever happens moving forward, it's clear that Coach Orgeron deserves the benefit of the doubt. Give the man a chance!!!!!

the culture at LSU>>> the losing culture of Ole Miss. that was also 10 years ago and O has learned a lot!

But why was he worse than the guy before him and after him? And every other coach in their history?

Why even bring this up? It can only end badly.

I do think it's hard to win at OM. But he was still the worst in history.

Clearly things are working out better for him now.

If you are in a career for any meaningful period of time, you are going to make mistakes. The trick is to learn from them and try not to repeat them. I don't know that any of us are perfect, but I think Coach O has learned a lot and tried to apply that moving forward.

As long as he's not repeating the same mistakes he made at Ole Miss that he admitted caused him to have that record and he continues to win games, he will receive fan support.

I've said it before, but Coach O really screwed himself putting so much into the 5-star JUCO QB transfer back then. He ended up sucking and there was no improvement on offense.

Keep in mind he took Jevan Snead at QB as a transfer his last year there who ended up being pretty good, but wasn't able to play until after O got fired. He left Nutt a great situation in 2008 from a player personnel standpoint and they did well. Don't think it's becuase Nutt is any better of a coach than Coach O, just that the cards finally aligned from a personnel standpoint the year after O was fired. Now it's all speculation if O would have done the same or better in year 4, but there's no doubt the players they had in 2008 were better set up for success than in any year 2005-2007.

O made many mistakes as coach there, but if he was given 1 more year (not saying he should have), things may have turned out much differently.

No Tommy tuberville got ole miss started off of probation, David cutcliff did ok, and Hugh freeze had them real good.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what CEO did at OM or why. He's here, and he appears to be doing a damn good job, so let's support him as best we can by filling the stadium and screaming our asses off. We have some huge games upcoming.

9-4 isn’t good.

He’s getting credit this year because it looks like he’ll do better than that’s if we go 9-4 again I feel Like people won’t care about 2 September top 10 wins.

If we go 10-3 or 11-2 it’s going to boost that record.

I actually always felt like this would be a good year for O. The defense was always going to be too good to lose what people were predicting.

The question is and always will be: can he keep this up and win an NC. C

What is often forgotten is how loaded OM was for Houston Nutt his first two seasons there. And then when the Orgeron recruits either left or finished their eligibility, the wheels totally came off for Nutt. I was in Oxford at the 2011 LSU game and it was pitiful. Those players gave zero fricks and the talent was horrendous.

Orgeron built them up talent wise. He just had no idea how to manage a program from the top at that point

Orgeron being an abject failure at OM does not doom him to being a poor coach, at least not forever.

But I think it most likely means he is not a special coach. I think you put any coach we deem a special coach and they would do well at OM or anywhere else. And I thought that's what we wanted at LSU, a special coach.

Not all ole miss coaches do as bad as O did. He was terrible at ole miss. He would even say that.

This is where I think he's most improved. He learned from two of the best under Carroll and Miles on how to run a program since the OM debacle.
