AND could not play as Freshman year
Old timey rules
Just a correction to this, Freshman could not play on the varsity squad at that time, but could play on the Freshman Team. Maravich averaged 43.6 ppg for the Freshman Team. Crowds would pack Parker for the Freshman Team's games then a majority would leave when the varsity game began in Pete's Freshman year.
NCAA.com article on the Pistol
Quote from article:
"As a freshman, Maravich scored 66 points in a game against the Baton Rouge Hawks and 50 in another. That happens when you average 43.6 points per game. There was one night he pulled down 22 rebounds."

The thing that separates Maravich from Crews are the POY awards.
Pete has 1 more conference, and 1 more national.
It may also be worth noting/relevant that the 3 SEC POY awards and 3 1st Team All American awards represented every year he played college basketball. There was no "Freshman All-American" because freshmen weren't allowed to play (I wonder if there was a "Freshman Team All American" award?). He was the only SEC POY his entire career, and he was 1st team on every All-American team his entire career.

Cannon didn't get a bunch?
It is called the Heisman and he should have won it back to back.
Y’all forget about freshman not playing like Doc and Pete

The scoring record isn't relevant
I beg to differ. Then take away Crews BA then.
He would have to hit .750 to equal Pete’s 44 a game.
And there’s a fact that Pete would’ve been a fourth time all American and lead the nation is scoring for four years. Freshman didnt play remember.
Burrow would have to had passed for 8000yds in 2019 to equal what Pete did every single season.
With that as far as baseball,
Ben was a 2X AA, Won a Gold medal by pitching the USA to 2 wins and was on the Elite 8 basketball team in 1987.
While not a national title that elite 8 is really damn strong

Crews didn't win the Golden Spikes because he had the highest average or most home runs (he didn't), he was selected for his overall body of work.
Same for Maravich... his scoring led to his awards, but I don't think they handed out a specific award for Most Points, etc. If they do, it's not POY.
Records are not awarded. They may lead to someone winning one, but a lot of scoring leaders weren't POY in basketball.
Don't get wadded up, I'm not discrediting Pete in any way. I'm differentiating between achievements and awards.

Track hands out national titles for different disciplines, and is a highly individual sport. The team score is combined to determine team championships, but the individual scores determine individual champions. I know you know all of this, but I'm pointing it out because that's a lot different from the kind of team sport the OP is referring to. Tommy White, for instance, didn't win the co-national rbi championship. Skenes didn't win the strikeout national championship.
Track is kind of goofy in how they set so many different distances, giving opportunities for all those different "championships" for doing things that all mostly involve running. And naming them an all-American for every individual accomplishment, instead of for everything they do, as a whole, once per year, as they do in regular team sports.
Dylan Crews is almost as decorated as he could possibly be for his sport. If they handed out all-American recognition for each thing that he excels at, every year, he'd probably be a 27 time all-American.

Ok
4 time first team all American. 4 time SEC POTY when UK and Rupp was in your league. Naismith POTY in 1970. The award started in 1969 and given to Lew Alcindor AKA Kareem, the only other year he could have won it.
How about 30/30 or SEC Specials, Movies, Documentaries, and on and on written and made about you or the building named after you? How’s that?
There’s not another single athlete that has ever played at LSU that has been as “decorated”. There weren’t all those awards then to split up. It is like Bowl games then versus today. Different times.
