Guy was underrated coming out of HS. He has basically lived the position and has has coaching at home. Does he redshirt this year or play? It would not surprise me to see him starting in the second half of the season, unless Cush surprises us.

Not every 3 star guy can be under rated. At some point, it is what it is. This kid needs a year or 2 in a college weight program.

O commented after scrimmage that he's "young". It's been stated that Brumfield would play C if Cush struggled. Reading the tea leaves and seeing where we was in the spring, I think they want to redshirt him. He needs to get bigger and stronger. He might have a bright future but ideally a year of maturing physically before playing in the SEC would be ideal.

My concern, is Cush ready. I'm feeling that C is our weakness on the O-line.

He’s not ready. He’s listed at 285 but showed up in the 260s. I think that 285 is similar to when they listed Myles at 193 last year.

SEC DT’s will eat him alive, he needs to grow.

OL is a hard position to come out of high school and play in the SEC. sounds like is is not yet strong enough.

Guy was underrated coming out of HS.

No doubt:

From LSU website:
"Played on both sides of the ball at offensive tackle and defensive end during his time at Pontotoc High School in Mississippi … A three-star prospect according to 247Sports … Did not allow a sack between his junior and senior seasons … During his senior season, totaled 62 pancakes and led Panotoc High School to an 11-2 record and the 2-4A regional title … Showed off his versatility by playing tackle, guard and center while in high school … His dad Brent Smith was an All-SEC offensive lineman at Mississippi State and was picked in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins"

SEC Country:
"Cole Smith was the first offensive lineman to pop. The highly underrated sleeper prospect from North Mississippi visited LSU on the first day of spring practice and before leaving was offered by coach Ed Orgeron. Smith committed on the spot"

"Smith is committed to play in the Under Armour All-America Game in January in Orlando, Fla. The Tigers had two offensive line prospects play in that game a year ago, including Austin Deculus and Edward Ingram."

According to Scout he was the #2 Center and #2 player out of Mississippi for his class.

"Smith, again, is a guy who impressed at some camp settings. At the Under Armour camp in Houston, 247 sports writer Greg Powers had this to say:

Not currently rated that is sure to change quickly as Smith earned an invitation to the Under Armour All-America Game after a very good showing against the big-bodied and strong defensive tackles in attendance. He was listed with the wrong number on the media roster, so I was quick to find out who this massive center was."

"The fact that Cole Smith didn’t bother to add music to his highlights says pretty much everything you need to know about his style.

Smith plays all over on tape, mixing in at left tackle, some at center, and even some snaps on the defensive line. On the hoof he strikes me as one of those corn-fed midwestern types that seems to always find their way to Wisconsin and Iowa. Just big, thick country boys."

"He definitely plays a little past the whistle. He’s got a nasty streak. He’s a bully. Probably good traits to have as an offensive lineman, but just needs to make sure he keeps that stuff in check.

He’s pretty mobile. He can pull and trap. That gives you options from your center.

Solid punch. He’s not a jawbreaker like Trai Turner was, but he can definitely get into you. He can drive a pile. He’s got pretty good power for a guy that’s not 300-plus pounds right now."

He won’t play this year and he shouldn’t. He was the #2 center in the country at one point. He is extremely underweight as he came in at 250. He needs to gain another 40-50 pounds. I watched him at the Under Armour camps last year on t.v. and he was dominated by every guy he went against. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was watching him. He wasn’t underrated that’s why he dropped in the rankings. Just don’t think he’s an SEC caliber football player.

Couple years with the roid and weight room program and he 'll be ready. Looks to have the frame and attitude for it. Like a Nebraska lineman from the 80's

I posted then scrolled up and could tell it was your post before seeing your handle.

Surprise, surprise you’re wrong again.

O said he isn’t ready. If Cole Smith is playing C this year then shite has gone very wrong.

Saban would plant Raekwon right over the top of him and blitz the A gaps constantly.

He could play in up to 4 games for “free.”

IMO, we should take advantage of that opportunity for EVERY freshman that intends to redshirt. (In the right game at the right time, of course. Likely late garbage time vs. Rice/SLU, etc.)
