Yes
They are a SEC West team. All SEC West teams are our division rivals. It goes in cycles. 7 years ago, Auburn would've been our toughest competition to win the west, now it's Bama.

I guess we can claim them but no bama fan would say LSU is their rival. FWIW.

Obviously different segments of the fanbase will differ on this subject. When the new schedule is released, the game you circle is your rival. There are 360 degrees of red ink encompassing the gumps on my schedule. For me, Yes, not even close.

Exactly. Rivalries endure hatred, even in down years. LSU is a great game with lots of history, but when both teams aren't good, people don't really think about it... At least from the Alabama side.

Personally, I don't consider it a "rivalry" but I do look at the game against Bama as a very important game.
AU and Bama are rivals.
We just don't like Bama. They don't like us. They look at the game against us, the same way.
It's important to both teams.
Now that that's out of the way, I don't like Alabama. NOOOOOOO.
Screw 'em.

I agree. Bama's game vs. LSU will never overcome the importance of beating Auburn (in-state rival) or Tenn. (border state rival). Honestly, what highly significant rivalry in college FB doesn't have 1 of those 2 features? I can only think of U$C-ND currently & Oklahoma-Nebraska back in the old Big 8.

LSU is Bama's biggest game of the year, and Bama is LSU's biggest game of the year. I would say that makes a good case for them being rivals.
Unless one of us falls to mediocrity then it will stay that way for awhile...

Reasons:
1. One team in the SEC and only one has had a winning record against every other conference member who has a history in the league....
2. The same team has almost Double the conference championships as LSU...
3. That team has 9 AP, UPI, or BCS titles plus a history of winning championships/big games dating back to 1925...
4. That team is in the same division as LSU...And because of these LSU fan base hates this team deeply...
Need anymore reasons?

Alabama and Auburn are rivals. Alabama and Tennessee are rivals. Alabama and LSU are just both good and play meaningul games lately.

Other than that, LSU is just another game on the Alabama schedule for them.
Bingo.
Not only that, Bama has the luxury of knowing they can lose our game in November, then get another shot at us if LSU goes unbeaten. Bama can just ride our coattails into January and get a second chance.
Reality is, Bama having LSU on their schedule is a luxury.

Having lived in both Alabama and Louisiana I can tell you there's a cultural difference flaming the "rivalry". You have only to visit the Alabama posting board and read for a while to see the difference. (www.tidefans.com/forums/football) There's little humor and no profanity or ranting on the Bama board. Also, the Alabama board is open to any fan of any football program--except LSU.
There's a rivalry there, just not the same kind as Alabama-Auburn or UT.

we have no rival
Not Bama.....maybe Ole Miss or Arky closer than Bama.......

I think "rival" would have to go both ways, so I'd say no. Like the Bama fans have said, our game is nothing special to them, other than we're good right now, and they have to beat us to win the conference.
Think of the Big 10- everybody wants to claim Ohio State as their rival, but OSU doesn't see everyone the same. They don't view, say, Wisconsin, the same as they do Michigan. If Bama is OSU, we're Wisky- a very good opponent capable of beating them, but not the team they dwell on.
Teams that might consider US rivals- Ole Miss, Arkansas. A&M will be fixated on us, I'm sure; but maybe more on Arky...?

Based on these two sets of definitions alone, and our positions within the SEC-West, not to mention my own feelings on the subject of whether or not 'Bama is a real LSU rival, I'd say the answer is a resounding YES! They are our rival, and we are theirs.

bullshite on the "LSU is just another game for Alabama". They don't like us and they know we scare the shite out of them, same goes for how we think of them.
Posted on 2/7/12 at 7:21 pm to didobrosco1
we are, whether we like it or not.
If you want to use a different word, go ahead, but they are a large obstacle in our path to SEC Championship
