Currently yes, because the past few seasons beating Alabama has controlled our destiny in a sense of winning the SEC West and having the chance to play in SEC Championship game.
Also both fan bases are pretty passionate about it and LSU would probably be every Alabama fans biggest Non-State rival. Auburn will always supersede LSU in the real rival department but Alabama is our Rival much like Auburn was in early part of decade.

Alabama has always been our rival in my mind. Back in the 70's and 80's they routinely kicked our arse so it really wasn't much of a rivalry in terms of wins and losses being even.

However, lately LSU has had the upper hand but the games have ALWAYS been very intense and closely contested.

Now with Tricky Nicky running the program at Ala. it's become a true rivalry with emotional ties. Yes, Ala. is OUR rival. Fla. is a close 2nd IMO. Maybe Ark. as a 3rd option for best rivalry.

Reasons: 1. One team in the SEC and only one has had a winning record against every other conference member who has a history in the league.... 2. The same team has almost Double the conference championships as LSU... 3. That team has 9 AP, UPI, or BCS titles plus a history of winning championships/big games dating back to 1925... 4. That team is in the same division as LSU...And because of these LSU fan base hates this team deeply... Need anymore reasons?

The ancient history reads well for Alabama. The past decade from 2000-2011 facts:

1) The team with the most wins for all SEC teams, LSU 122-34 (AL 101-52 in the same period)
2) Teams with the most SEC Championships, LSU 4 (AL 1)
3)Teams with most BCS Championships, tied LSU 2, FL 2, AL 2

4) LSU v AL in that span, LSU leads 9-4

In those down years, no thought to AL. I think we have other rivalries to consider.

Irrelevant if you can't beat them twice in a year now.

Bama fans know this as well.

Would you consider a team a rival if you only had to beat them once in a season while they had to beat you twice?

No. You wouldn't. You'd be just as arrogant as their fans with this new found gift.

Your stats above, while very telling, mean shite.

NOPE! It is & will always be O'll Piss!!! Bama is not a rival just presently the best 2 programs in the SEC. The game winner means more for bama than Lsu.

Nope.

Only possible reason is because they have our old coach.

Other than that, LSU is just another game on the Alabama schedule for them.

I think we as a fanbase just like to think Alabama and LSU are rivals because of the coach. But in reality, we consider that game important a lot more than Alabama fans do, as far as rivalries go.
if we are consistently better and an impediment to the SEC and NC game over Tenn and Auburn, why wouldn't we be considered a rival?

Actually, you mean the game loser.

Bama losing to LSU in the regular season actually benefits them now. Gives them an extra week off to heal up and prepare for the rematch in January.

Who would have thought that losing an inter-division game is actually a luxury now in CFB?

We've come a long way!

We are rivals as long as we are both the two meanest kids on the block. Sooner or later we're gonna fight.

That's the third time in this thread you've whined about this, put your big girl panties on, most of your fellow fans have.

And no, LSU is not a rivalry game for Alabama, no matter what the definition of rivaly is in the dictionary. It's an important game against a great team, but not like Auburn or Tennessee. We really hate those guys.

My stating of fact is not "whining". What happens in college football is hardly something that causes me enough grief that I would "whine" about it. LSU winning a NC has no bearing on my personal life whatsoever.

My son telling me he failed school or got in trouble would be something I would "whine" about.

Don't project your "be all end all" attitude you and your fan base has onto me.

Thanks in advance.

No. They have not. I'm a friendly reminder.

And I agreed with this notion, and you agreed with me, therefore you too are a whiner.

No. Not in the traditional sense. LSU is currently the "Notre Dame" of the SEC; no intense rivalries(Because of Ole Mrs decades of decline) but every frickin' body in the conference wants to whip the Tigers in the worst way. All that really matters regarding the 'Bama series is Tiger 9, 'Bama 4 since 2000. I'd say that says it all.

Tenn and Aub are our rivals. If Bama had either of those down 35-0, I would be disappointed if they let up one bit. Florida and LSU are just great teams that Bama happens to play and are usually very important games.

We may have a rivalry, but like others have said, it has to go both ways. Auburn is Alabama's number 1 rival by far. I don't think we are rivals with Alabama. It's a big game, but not a rivalry like Alabama's with Auburn and Tennessee.

If we would schedule Tulane each year we'd have a rival. Maybe A&M will be our rival.

If Bama could win only one game next year, I would choose Auburn, with UT a close second.

It hurts losing to LSU, but nowhere near as bad as those two.

But LSU-Bama has a long history that's been intensified in recent years. I got no problem with it being called a rivalry. But it's not built on hatred like the other two.

The fact is Alabama and LSU have scheduled their by-weeks before they play each other for many years. So that smells like a rivalry to me.

This year we get a by before the game and they don't.

I'd rather beat both.

But what I was saying, was I'd rather lose to LSU than Tennessee anyday.
