As long as he has a clause he's fired without pay when Miles goes I'll be okay with that. Miles will be fired in the next 2 years with this hire unless you see his offense get progressively better.
This hire pisses me off because our pride and traditional is defense and this is an utter slap in the face to the fans. You can't find many positives about this guy's hire other than he's a good recruiter. Getting good recruits in is half the battle. Coaching is more important and in case anyone hasn't realized lately, LSU sometimes struggles there in the development of our players.

Yes, he sucked at Baylor, but I guess it's a good thing that he's not the head coach.
Yes, he sucked as the DC at 'Bama and Clemson, but I guess it's a good thing that he's not our DC.
Oh, wait...

What's important and overlooked when talking assistant coaches is how well the coach can work with them.
The D may be horrible but if CLM gets along with him, then it is a good hire?

I will reserve judgement until we actually see how well he coordinates the defense.
^This. Although I have to feel underwhelmed, considering that there are unemployed DC's out there with stronger resumes on paper who were passed over in favor of Steele.

Are you serious? I didn't know that about him. More reason for me not to believe the shite about Saban holding him in high regard for DC planning. Saban infiltrated LSU to brainwash the staff into thinking he's a good DC. Smart agent Saban.

Agree. Miles and Chavis had (or so I thought) a great arrangement. Miles recruited the players, then handed them over to Chavis for coaching and Miles kept his grubby hands off the D altogether. Getting talent was never a problem for us.

Why take Steele when Kirby was clearly interested. Im not saying I think Kirby would have been a good hir either as all know Saban is THE defensive coordinator at Ala but taking a person Saban demoted instead of person Saban held responsible for D is hard to understand

I'll go on record and say that I am happy with it.

People are writting him off as a bad hire because he had one bad year at clemson.
The guy may do ok but the hire is horrible. Clearly this guy is not the guy that inspires much confidence. It is telling that our rivals are happy with the move.

I don't hate it, but I hate that it has come to this. Highly respected DC leaves us for a division rival and Miles / Aleva dick around a couple weeks to hire a LB coach with a suspect reputation.
Exactly.

What do you like about it? Just curious

This is not the end his incompetence for a Offense will be his end

Our bowl game showed that our D can lose games as well.

I'm amazed at how knowledgable the lsu fanbase is regarding all assistant coaches across this country. Truly amazing. Seriously though, how the frick do any of us know if this is a good hire or not? It's mind blowing how so many "fans" think they know everything, even about an assistant coach hire.

I don't know how I feel about this yet.
I will say that I watched that west Virginia/Clemson game and...... Uh.
Edit:
I have talked to a few friends that know more about the whole thing than I do and I feel better about the hire.
