For the record I think we can win every game, but I expect us to lose 2-4 because all signs point to 2014 being more significant for the development of underclassmen for our real run at a championship next year. I was all on the Defensive-Reload bandwagon last year, but we found out the hard way that you don't lose your best players and get better. After another year of early defections, the D seems to be in the same situation while the O has question marks everywhere but the line.

I hear a lot of optimisim about the D, but I just don't see where the front 7 will be improved. Danielle looks like he's ready to be a star, but I really have my doubts about the interior as LaCouture and Thomas got less than 1/2 the snaps that Ego / Anthony got in '12 as the second unit, and sometimes when we did use the backup DL last year they got steamrolled (an Arky TD drive in the 3rd quarter where they ran the ball almost every play comes to mind).

I heard all the same optimistic predictions about the linebacking crew last year (this is Debo's year!!), but when Welter's still your MLB, it's safe to say you're not in the top 1/2 of the conference at that spot. The depth at that position has improved dramatically from last year, though, but even the hope for secondary improvement is predicated upon a Safety stepping up and being better than Loston. At least we won't look as lost back there this year.

Again, I think the development of those freshman and redshirt freshman will be more signficant than our record this year. All around the depth is better this year (except OL), but I can't see a legitimate argument that the starters will be better anywhere outside of DE and the secondary. We will likely find 2 stars out of LaCouture, Bain, Herron, Gilmore, Godchaux, and Valentine, but we still don't even know who's gonna be the 2nd team interior DL out of those guys, let alone assume they'll be All-SEC this year.

Same goes for the offense. It's more about if we can find a #2 option beside Dural (and even his apparent emergence in the spring game was a surprise). Dural will be a star, and you would think at least Dupre if nobody else will emerge by the end of the season beside him (a la ODB '11). However, I think DeSean is our only hope to have 2 legitimate receiving threats vs. Wisconsin. Again, it wouldn't surprise me if Jacory or Trey Quinn developed as a consistent target by November, but they probably won't see the field in Dallas.

I think we have a chance to enter a deathmatch with Bama with only one loss, but even losses to Wisconsin and Ole Miss shouldn't derail any realistic fans' hopes, because if we can get the offense and defensive front 7 rolling by November, things will be set up perfectly for a championship run in 2015!

Top teams reload, renovate, and compete... not rebuild.

Whoa partner, slow down! There is more upside to this team than down. The pieces are there, just let it come together. Damn!

You cant say it is a rebuilding year when its possible to attain normal program goals of winning the west, compete for the natty. Not saying that is the likeliest outcome, but as of now, we still are a contender for the division.

Rebuilding is when you know that you cant win the division.

The defense got much better at the end of last year, and i could argue that it was in spite of the DT's. Therefore, I think they take a step forward this year.

DE - Better pass rush/More experience
DB - Loaded
Safety - More athletic
LB - More experience/speed(most LB's got a lot of playing time last year.)

You'll get a lot of negative responses, but I don't think anything you're saying is off-base. LSU's D-line was as bad as they have been for a while, and I don't think it was a coincidence that the defense as a whole struggled for the first time in 4 years. I'm optimistic that the front 7 will be improved, but there is nothing definitive to say that it will be. Lots of new, unproven D-linemen taking the field next year. If they perform well, LSU has a chance to win every game. If they don't, the defense is going to struggle once again. Only this time they won't have record setting offense to bail them out.

Not gonna read what I can only assume is a false rationalization of why we will be great. The answer is yes. New QB, RB, WR group means a struggling offense. Defense should improve but that isn't saying much. Probably about the same record as last year.

It takes an even bigger tard to not realize this may be the best OLine in the SEC, and that alone can put you in Atlanta.

Every team rebuilds every year. Veterans either graduate or get passed by younger guys, grades, transfers, arrests, coaching changes, etc on every team every year.

Welter's still your MLB,

Beckwith will start over Welter. If not at the beginning of game one, after the first half of game one.

While I don't totally disagree with the OP, I think the D will be exceptionally better. The development of Hunter, Rasco, White and Robinson will be evident and their improved play towards the end of the season implies this. Kwon will be better. Mills looks better at safety than he did at CB. DT will be a question mark, but we have the depth for a heavy rotation. Either Welter improves or Beckwith steps up. Either way its an improvement.

Offensively we go back to ground and pound with Hilliard, Magee and the best HS player in the nation. OL is solid with only one new starter. Desean Smith may actually provide TE production for a change. WRs are young, but talented and Dupre is a top recruit and Quinn seems to be ridiculously undervalued.

QB? The buzz around Harris from coaches and talent evaluators is growing and he appears to have the maturity to handle more than most true frosh. Add in his mobility and dual threat and he can make us even more dangerous.

Lastly, Cameron has shown how he was able to transform Mett and should develop Harris well and Grimes comes in as a top notch OL coach which will make the line even better.

I try to temper my excitement because I don't want to get disappointed, but I think this team is going to exceed a lot of people's expectations.

idk i thought this might be the case after aTm but Jefferson wasn't the answer at SS and the DLine never dominated...

looked good against Iowa for sure but i feel like a mid-level SEC team like ole miss is faster and more athletic on offense... at least Welter should be able to keep up with Wisconsin
