LSU played 87 defensive snaps against Ole Miss.

Snap counts for the following players:

Whit Weeks - 87
Zy Alexander - 87
Ashton Stamps - 87
Sage Ryan - 86
Jardin Gilbert - 85
Major Burns - 84

It's hard to argue with the results, but seeing Gilbert, Ryan and Burns on the field so much and Spears so little, had me shaking my had most of the game. I guess thats why I'm not on the sideline

I figured Spears would be getting more run. I’m curious what they are seeing in practice to trust Burns and Gilbert so much more. They are legitimately terrible at times.

I guess Spears was just filling in for injured guys for a few weeks. I saw Toviano go in for Burns one play & then Burns went right back out.

Lol at the guys who thought the Toviano news meant he would start over Burns moving forward

I have a similar aggravation with the work of Albert Einstein. I’m sure that E=Mc^3, but he idiotically insisted it was E=Mc^2.

Do you see how stupid that would be for me to really believe I know more than Einstein about relativity? It’s almost as stupid for you to keep insisting you know more than Kelly and his last two defensive staffs.

Major Burns has always been a good player. I’ve been laughing at you arm chair coaches for two years as you denigrate him. And this is an odd time to do so, because Burns might be SEC defensive player of the week if it wasn’t for the fact that there were three other LSU defenders - Weeks, Zy, and Swinson - who were also dominant.

He's good when used correctly. He still struggles in coverage and with open field tackling imo. But in that star position he is excellent. I hate to say it, but the defense is better without Perkins and they don't have to figure out a way to have him on the field every play.

I don't know what's everyone's infatuation with Spears. With all the games I've watched, he seems to be the worst DB on the field. Say what you want against S. Ryan but he is at least serviceable.

Some of those counts are due to no subs being allowed as Ole Miss went fast. But good to see the guys get stronger as game went

Definitely why you aren’t on the sideline.

Spears was in on 3 snaps. On those 3 snaps, he got the worst grades of any LSU player who played in the game.

What’s interesting about it?

Kelly said they weren’t gonna sub much during conference play

Let’s give some credit. As maligned as he’s been (and rightly so) Burns played his best game as a Tiger Saturday night.

He gave up the one TD pass when he didn’t look for the ball but otherwise he really played well. Especially relative to prior performance

I'm not saying it's interesting that they aren't subbing as much. It's interesting as to who the guys are. There has been a lot of talk on here about whether they should just play the young guys and let them take their lumps and get experience. They aren't doing that. Also, playing 80+ snaps is impressive no matter who it is. Kelly also said 2 weeks ago that Zy wasn't ready to play 60+ snaps a game and he just played 87, so I consider that interesting as well.

Burns is probably better than sage but he isn't a great player. He is good at tackling moving forward. Good at blitzing. He is usually decent in coverage but just can't make the play. He is actually in phase with receivers though.

Sage just runs around with no direction. He shows up to every catch 2 or 3 steps to late.

pretty certain LSU was in Cover 3, and he had the deep middle and missed the assignment on Harris' big catch in the first half (the one he caught, not the drop).

LSU took Spears out immediately and he didn't play another snap.

They really did. Not perfect and I know they've both had really bad games but they both did their part on Satuday.

Burns permanently moving to the star might a move that works out really well.

Ryan and Gilbert at safety...is what it is. Although I still have hopes for Gilbert, he's flashed in some games.
