One thing is for sure: If JJ's erratic play is what the Fowlers and the Dodds of the national media took away from the spring game, we as LSU fans don't have to worry about being #1 goIng into the Oregon game.

I cant ever recall LSU going into a season with a 2yr starting qb this bad. I mean my biggest fear is since JJ has months to prepare for Oregon and he has proved he can actually learn a gameplan if given time either an offseason or waiting for a bowl game he may have a decent game against Oregon which would be great. However if he is the same JJ which he looked like in the Spring game he will follow it up with back to back horrible performances against Moo St and WV and think he is doing just fine.

I love how I was flamed for mentioning this exact same attitude the other day on here with JJ...way before this interview even came out. He really is immature and it doesn't seem like he has grown up one bit...holy frick we're in for a long season.

I just dont get what Miles thinks JJ brings to the table. In his 30 games at LSU (hard to believe, I know) here is what hes done:

Passing; 336 of 578 (58.1%) -- which doesnt seem all that bad until you realize he doesnt throw the ball unless the WR is wide open.

3,996 yds (133.2 yds per game) -- not acceptable for a guy starting his 3rd yr. In comparison, Tommy Hodson passed for 9,115 yards and 69 touchdowns. JR had 6,625 in about the same number of games, Flynn had 3,100 yds in just 13 starts. Wickersham 6,921 yds in 3 yrs.

28 TDs -- not even one a game

18 ints -- considering how he doesnt throw except to wide open WRs, this is problem

61 sacks (-417 yds) -- over 2 per game; confirms that he holds on too long, waiting for the WR to get open

Rushing; 284 attempts (9.6 per game) -- let that sink in. A guy who averages 2.66 yds per carry is taking away 10 opportunities from Scott (5.5), Williams (5.7); Holliday (6.8); Ridley (4.6); Shepard (6.5); Ford (6.0); Ware (7.3). Its mind-boggling that Miles wants a "running" QB

Totals: 133.2 pypg + 25.2 rypg = 158.4 -2 ypg (sacks) is 156.4 ypg -- last yr there were 79 QBs that passed for that many yds per game; 79!

Losses: JJ took the majority of the snaps in 8 losses out of 28 games. Then theres Moo St (Chad Jones punt return & EZ deflection); Ga (Scott breakaway, cuz JJ didnt want the ball); Arky (they missed a FG in OT); UNC (2 dropped TDs in the final seconds); TN (Lee, 4th & 14); Fla (Lee fade pass); Bama (Lee, 3rd down 46 yd completion) -- which means in over half of his games, LSU loses if we need to rely on him. Which = too much inconsistency.

He has played decently in the last two openers. It's possible.

He's played in 3 bowl games. Remind me which one was the BCS Bowl that he led us to?

Because if he had led us to an Arky win last yr, we're there.

did he really say this? yeesh.

i think he's talking about converting a 1st down, 20% of the time, in a 3rd and 6+ situation.

someone needs to tell JJ that last year, 63% of the passes he completed in ~3rd and 6ish resulted in a 1st down. problem is, his accuracy was mediocre.

2008: 8-5
2009: 9-4
2010: 11-2
2011: BCS bowl

It's hardly an off-the-wall prediction.

If Lee doesnt play in 2010, and '10 looks exactly like '09 (9-4).

So yeah, its way off the wall.

FWIW, if Lee doesn't play in 2010, we may have beaten Auburn.

Lee was 6-8 passing, after coming in for JJ trailing 10-0, and then got his throwing hand smashed

are you effing kidding me?

And he was 8-14 overall... and frequently made a hurried throw with Fairley in his face.

As bad a night as he had passing, JJ at least was able to break containment and put up next to 100 rushing yards. And that was the way we were going to beat Auburn, not by letting our QB get smacked around all night.
