The 94 game against Auburn still haunts me. I felt so bad for Jamie Howard after that game.

84-88 was actually THE most wins in any five years in program history.

Are you talking about up to that point?...because 03-07 compiled 56 wins to the 44 wins for the time period you mentioned. Granted there was an extra regular season game in 4 of the 5 years during the timeframe I referenced and 3 SECCG’s during that time as well.

Agree. It cracks me up to see posters acting like we just became nationally competitive in 2003.

The 80s were very good as you said. The mid to late 90s as well.

The notion that we should be ecstatic to just win 9 games is ignorance

Good job on qualifying that bc back in the 80s winning 9/10 games really did mean something. You didn’t play 12 games and we actually played a good out of conference schedule multiple years in a row

Yep ignorance. Too many Millennials and Zers in cyberspace who are just too young to remember the 80s and 90s (or vaguely). Those who know LSU football before this Millennium and especially students during that time (yours truly) know the success we had through most of the 80's and the '95-'97 teams.

It only took Alabama over twenty years to pay LSU back

Actually we were paying them back for the 26-0 beating they gave us in 96.

The Tigers were ranked #8 in 1998, and held that lofty position thru the first 3 games (victories over Ark.St., Auburn and Idaho). This Tiger team proceeded to go 1-7 the remainder of the season (2-6 in SEC play).

In 1997 LSU beat Alabama 27-0.

That is Bama's worst margin of defeat ever at Bryant-Denny by any team. Saban almost 27-0'd them too over there in 2003, but Shula kicked a FG instead of going for it late in the game to avoid the shutout. I believe that is their 2nd worst loss ever margin-wise there.

That 98 team should’ve at least gotten bowl eligible. The UGA, UK, and ND losses were so damn frustrating. Just needed 1-2 defensive stops in each and we win.

Side note, that 96 squad was a somewhat forgettable 10 win season. Outside of Faulk’s explosion against Houston, getting blanked by Bama, and that ugly bowl win (but hey I’ll take it), don’t remember a bunch.

Yes, it was such a bummer, I was at both and they were emotional highs and lows.

We weren't that high in the actual polls though. We were #10/11 in the AP and Coaches Poll.

I’ll never forget losing to Ole Miss the week after knocking off #1 Florida. What a let down that was.

In 10-15 years there will be another 10 teams that are up there. Everyone has their shite years. Could you imagine right now which teams would be good for a sustained amount of time? I hope LSU isn’t due for shite years.

7 of 10 years were absolutely awful in the 90s. Losing seasons not just 7or 8 win seasons that would send rantards to suicide watch. And the worst season in the modern era. The 90s sucked for LSU football and there is no sugar coating that. I lived - graduated in 94.
