Not a lot of positives to take away from Sunday, but the secondary played very well considering what we trotted out there the last 2 seasons. Was glad to see no deep balls burn us, other than the flea flicker, which was duck and an interception with a little more awareness. Not sure why we played such off coverage, especially early in the game. Travis carved us up when the chains were 3rd and 6 or less and we were 8 yards off our man.

On the bright side, I felt like Jay Ward stepped up as a senior leader the other night. He was all over the field engaging and making contact. That was not the case for him the last 2 seasons as he seemed to play on his heels. We need to find LB play fast, but the secondary is much improved and will only get better.

Greg Brooks.

Sage Ryan play in the end zone was crucial. So close to a TD.

Ward has never been afraid to hit. The problem is he's not terribly big and often takes more of the impact than the guy he is hitting

He played really well and was all over the field. He didn’t wrap up a couple times when he went high for the big hit. Hopefully he was just fired up for the first game though.

Ward was flying to the ball ready to lay the wood down on every tackle. He missed one where he went for big hit and didnt wrap up, other than that i agree 100% he was everywhere.

Also tells me the front 7 were no where to be found if your safety is having to make all the tackles.

I'm not sure how this conclusion was reached. We had people wide open, and massively lucked out multiple times when drops were made.

The scheme helped the massively deep, but was just trash for short and medium passes.

LB play was non-existent. Ironically our defensive line was beating their blocks so badly kind of hurt their tackle numbers because the QBs and RBs would juke them in the backfield and punish the LBs for not filling the holes properly.

I for one disagree. He was exactly where he needed to be when he needed to be there, but that’s only the half of it. Not every hit needs to be a knockout hit. Just wrap up your man and get him to the ground. Ward was trying to lay everyone out and he got some missed tackles because of it.

On one long pass play to the TE, the TE dropped the ball, but Ward was about to go full Marcus Williams with his head down trying to lay a big hit and completely whiffing. Glad the TE dropped the ball or this thread may be very different

Majority of these guys will be gone. Aggies just got a CB to 5 star Bravion Rogers who was a must get for us.

Yep, DBs and DL made almost all the tackles.

LBs gotta step up.
