but definitely similar in the sense in both cases the ball was put on the ground, no body parts touched
Except that the Wisconsin QB touched his knee on the ground and the ref immediately blew the whistle to end the play.
Literally the only things the plays have in common are that they both happened in a football game and involved a QB.

I saw it for the first time today and my reaction was a combination of
and
.
I can't imagine being a Wisconsin fan right now.

Well, genius, it WAS a live ball was it not? THe clock ran out. If the ball is on the ground it is a fumble in any other scrimmage play unless it is a kick or a pass then the kick is still live or the pass is incomplete and dead. You don't have a clue - read the rule book. A ball on a running play not in player possession is live, hence the clock runs. Rule 2 of the NCAA playbook would help all of you if you can comprehend. That is "definitions" of what a live ball is as it pertains to player possession. A fumble is a live ball not in player possession! Of course, you may continue to comment without knowledge.

Really bad!
Do we use SEC officials when the visitor is a non-conference opponent ?
At least the Pac 12 reprimanded those officials.
The reprimand would never happen in the SEC , particularly if 1) Bama 2) Auburn benefited from a bad call. The
SEC officials would be validated by the Birmingham office!

With all the subjective power that the refs have this year, the bama/lsu game is prime for shady shite

Typically if a home and home the visiting team's conference will call the game.

It was the ref's fault the wiscy qb forgot to kneel?

Technically a fumble and a live ball. I couldn't see if his knee touched or not. Officials aren't supposed to direct a team what to do. Placing the ball on the ground doesn't make it become dead. Obviously the team wanted to try a FG but it isn't fair to the other team to instruct them on what to do
Uhhh
No

The QB doesn't have to touch the ground with his knee, only has to be in the act. He obviously did that and the sat the ball on the ground. The ref immediately blew the whistle. The defense diving and laying on the ball should've been delay of game. At the very least, the ball should've been spotted for play ASAP.
Instead the refs just stand around for 20 seconds.

It was pure incompetence. They should be fired. One game in a college season means a heck of a lot.

First of all anyone have any visual evidence of him taking a knee. I didn't see his knee getting anywhere close to the ground.
Points.
1. Coach is an idiot for calling another play instead of kicking the winning chip shot field goal.
2. QB is a moron for not spiking the ball like he should have done.
3. Refs are dumb asses for not awarding the fumble to Arizona state. They recovered the ball which was an obvious fumble. Intentional or not it is a fumble.
4. But the biggest idiots in all of this (and that is saying alot) is ESPN for after the fact doing a whole segment on the situation, being over the top critical of the refs, when ESPN gets to rewatch the video a million times and still doesn't freaking know it was a fumble.
ESPN = Moron

Patrick Peterson interception brah
And the ending to the LSU-Penn State bowl game, which was eerily similar in that a guy was laying on the ball and the friggen Pac 12 ref called a penalty on Lyle Hitt for ripping him off the ball carrier.

1. NOT a live ball. Whistle blew. Dead ball.
2. NOT a fumble. See above. And no official ruled it as such. WHISTLE BLEW. Not only that, the QB declared himself down, by kneeling. Recognized immediately by the official who BLEW THE WHISTLE.
3. Clock was running. Not the issue here. The clock would not stop unless there was a change of possession. Which there was none, since there was no fumble. Since the WHISTLE BLEW immediately when the QB knelt and placed the ball on the spot.
Which rulebook are you reading? Genius.

Makes me recall the way the PAC 12 refs handled the finish of the LSU-Penn St. Capital One Bowl game a few years ago.

Do you call kneeling when your knee doesn't get anywhere close to the ground. He did not take a knee. He set the ball down and walked away.
Wisc got what they deserved. Anytime you do what their coaches did, you deserve to lose.
Anytime a player is so stupid as to simply set the ball down and walk away (instead of spiking it) you deserve to lose.
Why should the arizona st players not jump on the ball. He never took a knee. Ball on the ground you freaking jump on it! EVERYTIME! Whistle or not. EVERYTIME.
It like I told my daughter when she played 1st base or or 3rd base. You tag the runner every time. They come of the bag frequently. TAG'EM!
Big fail by the wisc. coaches and the wisc. players.

You checkout the screenshot two posts up? You should.
ETA. It doesnt even matter at that point. The ref blew the whistle because he thought his knee touched. Everything past that point = complete screw up.
