big picture

Is that we are 6-3, 4th in the west, 25th in the nation, suffered 2 terrible L's, loss to Bama for the 7th time in a row, and have a worse passing O and scoring in SEC games than we had in 2015.

That big picture wouldn't have been acceptable for the last staff and shouldn't be acceptable for this one either.

There is always hope and we should win out. If we do, the season will overall be a 10 win one and the team will deserve a pat on the back for their comeback.

It would have been acceptable for the former staff in their first year with a new OC and mediocre QB returning...and with a interim HC turned full-time HC.

But I get your agenda....undefeated with a NC in the first year....no points allowed in any games and score at least 60 points per game....right??

The bottomline is that Nick Saban is the best coach in America, and as long as he's at Alabama they will pretty much own the rest of the country

You can feel free to accept that, but I hope LSU doesn't or our players or whoever our coach might be.

Where have you been the past 12 or so years?

Watching LSU be competitive with Bama and beat them 5 times and having a Bama vs LSU game be less than 10 pt. wins 8 times and having LSU score more than 10 points 9 times between 05 and 2015. Where have you been?

I think most people are disappointed that the staff did not play to win. LSU had already taken the safe route last year, and it resulted in a 10 point loss. Not attempting to get something going just before half and the drive that consisted of 3 consecutive handoffs and a punt late in the second half, were clear signs that they weren't leaving it all out there. Every team that has beaten Alabama has been aggressive offensively and we never have. Even if it doesn't work, I would just like to see the coaches try everything before giving up. The team showed little creativity offensively, exhibited very little urgency down two scores in the 4th, and played much too conservative in the second half. I know that Etling is a major liability, but try everything before giving up against the best team in the nation. As far as accepting goes, Les didn't have too many great QBs either, but he never had a loss like Troy. That loss is pretty much unacceptable and has really hindered LSU from having a pretty respectable season.

staff in their first

The former staff won the west in their 1st yr., beat Bama, and finished in the top 5 of the nation. While I get the OC in that 1st staff being more proven that Canada, lets remember in our NC of 07 we had a new OC and a new OL coach.

But I get your agenda

Then you understand that results so far this season are not acceptable any more for LSU than the 10 L's in Miles' last 2 yrs. and 4 games was acceptable for LSU.

We wouldn't be in this situation AT ALL if miles had done any kind of credible job bringing in and training QBs.
All of this falls in his lap.

CEO did not bring in DE. We prolly win the Bama and Troy games with a good QB. The State game....still a loss in all likelihood.

Excited isn't the word, optimistic is. I'm glad we covered the spread and all, but I also do have hope for the future. Our WR toasted their DBs all game, we just didn't have a QB who could capitalize. We are a QB away from finally winning that game.

I think our game showed that they are beatable. I think UGA has a good shot at it. As much as it pains me, Geaux Dawgs.

How about don't lose to Troy, or MSU by a record margin? Is that unreasonable?

2015 was the only game our lines were manhandled since 1/9/12.

I'm sure you're correct, But I would also say our Oline was at least beaten pretty badly if not manhandled last year. This may have colored my thinking, I was talking about how the game felt to me. That is not always rational and often colored by recent events.

quote:

quote:

I felt like we were legitimately in the game almost until the end.

LSU was never closer than 11 points after the first minute of the second quarter.

LSU had leads until the final minute of the game in 2014, 2012, and was tied until over halfway through the third quarter in 2013.

Even in the game we got manhandled in 2015 we were down 10 until the final minutes of the third quarter.

None of those things discount what I said though perhaps the placement of the statement might have made you think I meant something I didn't. I qualified the first part of the statement with
quote:

for the first time in a few years
before I followed up with
quote:

and I felt like we were legitimately in the game almost until the end
and did not intend to insinuate I felt like we were out of those other games. The difference in the previous 2 was I felt like we could move the ball in this game as evidenced by 310 yards of total offence this year vs 182 in 2015 and 125 last year.

quote:

I’m not knocking the effort by the players or coaches in this game. They showed up prepared, played hard, and didn’t quit.

I agree wholeheartedly on this.

quote:

But that is no different whatsoever than any of the previous games in this series.

I think there is but I do not think it is pronounced, we moved the ball much better despite many missed opportunities. Otherwise, we probably agree.

quote:

It is the unnecessary revisionist history to make this game some kind of turning point in the series that many of us are amused by.

We definitely agree on this and I certainly have not intentionally done this and don't mind being called out if I have, just justify it. It is why I asked Brazos to share his opinion after he watched.

I do consider the game a turning point for me, not for the team. Before this game I was still less than optimistic for the final stretch, now I am cautiously so.

quote:

Be happy about the performance all you want

Cautiously optimistic is my current feelings, happy about some things, unhappy about others, hope I end up being proved wrong about the coaching hire.

quote:

but don’t knock previous performances to justify that happiness

Was not my intent and I don't think I did. I was at the game in Tiger stadium last year with my son, who is now a freshman at LSU, we were very proud of the boys.

quote:

because then you invite those with facts and perspective to challenge you on your bull shite.

Honestly, if I'm doing the thengs you said, I hope that is what happens.

There’s little doubt that the quarterback position was a real Achilles’ heel for Miles, let’s keep in mind that Harris was much higher rated as a QB than either one of our current freshman quarterback‘s. While Harris Has failed in 2 different programs under two different head coaches, the jury is just beginning it’s deliberations as to what success, if any, our current guys will enjoy.

Danny might have been brought in under miles, but his development or lack there of as a starting quarterback much more belongs to Coach O than Miles.

He's hit his ceiling. You can't win the Kentucky Derby on a jackass. Maybe they've tried with DE but there's nothing left in the tank.

I mean, Purdue didn't want him. He should never have brought in in the first place.

He can't make the throws.

“ he should never have been brought in in the first place”

Well, since both Harris and Scott left the program under Coach O, it’s a dam good thing he was here whether he should’ve been or not. Would you rather have gone with a true Fr.?

Coach O has been on staff since 2015 and intern coach/head coach since September 2016. He’s been pretty much responsible for the direction of LSU football for the last 17 games. How much longer will the past staff be used as an excuse for the current staff’s failures by some?
