Laugh all you want. Helmet to helmet is only a penalty on a defenseless player. A runner is not a defenseless player.
this is only true if you haven’t watched a game since the targeting rule was implemented

All you had to do is watch the LSU game yesterday. Gene Steratoee explained it just as I said. It's explained at least once on almost every game.
quote:
The official 2018 Football Code of the NCAA Football Rules Committee stresses that "players and coaches should emphasize the elimination of targeting and initiating contact against a defenseless opponent and/or with the crown of the helmet."
quote:
Defenseless players can be defined as any of the following, but not limited to:
a player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.a receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.
a kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return.
a kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.a player on the ground.
a player obviously out of the play.a player who receives a blind-side block.
a ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped.a quarterback any time after a change of possession.
a ball carrier who has obviously given himself up and is sliding feet-first.

quote:just watching that for the first time, there absolutely was helmet to helmet contact. i don't understand not throwing the flag, which could be picked up later, and then reviewing. the defender didn't launch and the defender didn't use the crown of the helmet. i want that to be a typical fb play but by definition, that is absolutely helmet to helmet.

I’ve never seen you this way. Speechless.

Joe is OK with it, I'm certain you'll be OK too.

Yep, this approach for sure. When it doubt it is a foul. No way watching that live it didn’t look like targeting. Hell, it looks like targeting in slow motion.

CBS’ in-house rules expert thought it was a fine no call, saying Burrow was not defenseless and it looked like the AU defender did not lead with the crown of his helmet.
I don't know how much simpler it can be said than this.

Unfortunately, we have two more weeks to make stuff up to bitch and moan about!

Hell yeah. The most important thing is that we are 8-0, #1 and the defense is improving to compliment the offense well.

quote:
Actual rule: No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting. When in question, it is a foul.
Key: When in doubt it is a foul. Forearm and fist was used in head and neck area. By rule it was absolute targeting.
He wasn't a defenseless player, he was a runner.
