Monken has been an OC for a single year. Mike Gundy was OC of Okie State for four years before taking the Head Coaching job. Are you going to attribute their success on offense to one guy? Come on, sir. I'm sure Monken is a great fit, but they had an offensive system before Monken got there, and it was Gundy.

LMAO! You just outed yourself. Gundy wasn't worth a damn until he hired Holgorsen from Houston and he installed his varietal of Leach's Air-Raid. Monken was an NFL guy and he was a pass-game coordinator here and in the League prior to going there and learning it from Weeden & Gundy. He ran Holgo's same offense last year.

All vertical release off the line, stick/draw concept packaged run/pass plays, and the whole shebang.

Gundy got taught how to play offense by Holgorsen. They taught it to Monken but he's got a great track record of pro-style and Spread Air-Raid.

He's not a system coordinator. He's a coordinator period. One with a working relationship with Miles. That Miles trusted to call plays while here at LSU already.

But yeah that Gundy comment is laughable on your end Brochacho.

For me, I just look at all the weaknesses this year:

Nothing at TE.
Lost our opening game LT, RG, RT and even our C for some span.
No true no. 1 WR.

In November, as Mettenberger and the WRs matured, the OL finally gelled, we looked a lot better.

I fully understand and agree with this. It's been a very difficult year as far as offensive personnel and outside variables are concerned. I also don't want to necessarily make a drastic change that could throw off any rhythm. But I'm not optimistic that we'll see a difference next season. Hope I'm wrong.

Offense is pretty predictable. I think to take the next step something has to change. I guess we will find out next year (as we say every year) if it's the system or players.

The offense did improve but damn it had nowhere to go but up. It was impressive against Bama but even then struggled in the red zone.

Look dude, I can't stand a gump any more than you, but he ain't wrong. By the way, look at the difference a new OC has made with UF.

You do know Holgorsen only coached at OSU in 2010 with like the 7th ranked offense. 2 of the three years prior to that OSU had a top 10 offense. OSU's offense was great under Gundy before Holgorsen came along.

It looked good (Between the 20s) for 3-4 games. Still wildly inconsistent.

Sorry, just sick of them chiming in on our board like they have all the answers for LSU.

FFS, when are you people going to learn whoever OC is doesn't matter? Miles will always keep the same style of offense for his philosophy. Deal with it.

the point was that we've had several OCs and the same mediocre to poor offense. What is the common factor between them all?

I'm not (honestly) trying to be argumentative. I'll freely admit that our O was poor in 2009 and 2010, mediocre in 2008, and not *that* bad in 2011 and toward the end of 2012. My only contention is that it has not been the *same*. Nor has it been bad during Miles' entire tenure, as some would have us believe.

The O under Jimbo was pretty good, despite hiccups in some games (most notably Auburn 06). Crowton's O in 07 and even 08 (despite JLee's pick 6s) put up pretty good numbers.

It was only from 09 and 10 that our O really struggled...when we had a shell-shocked QB, a coaching staff deathly scared of giving up points on O, and a OC who could not develop the QBs we had on the roster. Last year was a bit of a crap shoot...O put up decent numbers some games on the strength of our running game, but QB play was simplified (when JLee started) or nonexistant (when JJ started). This year started off poorly (new QB, an Oline that had a new injury every game), but it improved as the season went on.

So, no, I can't say been poor under numerous OCs. It's struggled at times, been pretty damn good at other times, and has improved this year despite a new QB, a WR corps missing a tall NFL prototype style athlete, a key injury to a RB, and a patched up beyond belief Oline.

Honestly, I think we need a more experienced OC than Stud. But I don't think it's true that our O has always been poor.
