quote:absolute nonsense. Any mother worth her salt would be MORTIFIED if her son chanted STTDB in the middle of a football stadium.
My parents raised me on LSU sports and I attended my first game before my first birthday in 1975. She's heard it all before. She knows the difference between cursing at a football game and in everyday life. She wouldn't care.
Call her and ask her. We’ll await her response.

You don't have to explain it. Just tell them it's adult words that they shouldn't be saying in public and that they shouldn't say that or act that way. Pretty easy.
If you don’t know the difference, I simply don’t what I can say.

I'm actually watching the Superbowl with her and I was surprised at her response. She said that she would rather me not say that but that I'm a grown man and can make my own choices. Then, said that she knows that I'm a very respectful person and would never say anything inappropriate in any other public setting. Had to give her a big hug. Glad you asked me to ask her.

Not when it comes to telling a 5 or 8 year old not to say it.
Parents say. Children do. Especially at that age.

Different strokes for different types of folks, I suppose.

Well, she also knows that I don't do that so that probably has a lot to do with her answer. I don't do the chant, but I just don't have an issue with it and don't think it has any kind of impact on kids if parents do their jobs. Honestly, I don't understand the obsession with it.

Just give up your tickets? The chant will be here forever, whether you like it or not. Whether they play the song or not, the chant will be there. Stop bitching or don’t go. Unless you’re sitting in the north, chances are you aren’t, then you can’t even understand what the chant is anyway

Wait until your kids start listening to today's contemporary hiphop. You can't ignore the lyrics. Neck is harmless compared to most of today's pop music.

Yeah I was listening to NWA in 7the grade.
I heard all about blowjobs in the neighborhood and on the bus in elementary school. I asked my kid about this and she said they knew all about that in middle school and she was in private school. Kids hear this stuff no matter how much we try to keep them from it.

That’s middle school! Do I think middle school kids hear stuff like that at school, on tv, and on the internet? Of course I do. I still don’t like it, but what about the little kids? The ones in the 5 to 10 age range. They have every right to be at the game and not be subjected to vulgarity. It’s an LSU game, not Bourbon St.

What's your suggestion as a solution? I don't have one for stopping the chant.

My suggestion is to have everyone submit their new chants to a thread here on the Rant. If we can come up with something snazzy enough it might take the place.

I wish that would work. I think "you really suck, bitch" is a happy medium. But, STTDB isn't going anywhere unless LSU does something about it IMO.

Justifications such as this one
I’m not justifying it, but I’m not condemning it, either.
It’s not blatantly obvious what a section of people across the field are chanting, so your 12 year old kid will be fine.
If the guy sitting next to you is chanting it, politely ask him to stop yelling profanities in front of your kid. In most cases, an apology will be rendered and you can go about the rest of your night “suck” free.

Okay. Nice moral high ground you stand on. STTDB

Exactly. Unless you sit in the north west, your kids have no clue what they’re saying

Nor should it have to.
Get rid of STTDB, then OP is going to complain that his children shouldn't have to hear people say "...kick their arse" at the end of that chant.
Once that's gone, his precious off-spring shouldn't have to be subjected to people over indulging alcohol as they walk to the stadium.
Then we should just ban cursing or any other language perceived as aggressive. Wouldn't want the kids to be scarred for life.
