I’m sure he’ll take pointers from this thread.

I mean objectively there is a lot to live up to. But you can't deny there was a lack of energy in the program

I was at the game and thought JJ managed it very well. You don’t win championships in March. He gave a lot of players the chance to face quality pitching. There were three plays in the field that determined the outcome of this game. The three run homer Floyd gave up, the errant throw by Floyd to Morgan and the mishandling of the relay throw by Doughty from Gio. Those three plays accounted for five runs. LSU hit a lot of balls hard tonight and some long balls that a couple may have been out at the Box. We didn’t get blown out and overall the pitching was pretty good. We lost to a good team that will probably be in Omaha. Geaux Tigers.

Pearson is a lefty. Righties we’re getting slaughtered by that slider/cutter tailing away.

Pearson got on base, and the left-handed Stevenson got a hit immediately afterwards. It seemed to be the right strategy.

I did not care for the pinch hitting choices made in this game. I even cared less for intentionally walking the 8 hole hitter in the second inning. That was inexplicable.

It backfired for sure, but it was defensible. Their 9-hole was a near automatic out who lucked into a swinging bunt.

Why would you give a free base in the second inning to the 8 hole hitter. If you get him out the next inning starts with the 9 hole hitter. And it takes two players to reach base before they get to the lead off hitter. You don’t give free bases to bottom of the order hitters in the second inning.

Good grief. I’m sure the players would thrive in a situation where they are given one chance, and failure on their part results in no more opportunities.

I have no problems with his pinch hitting. If the guys aren’t hitting all game long and we are behind he is just trying to get a spark. I have a problem with Ty Floyd being a sat or Sunday Starter. Stick him as a middle reliever until he can throw a secondary pitch. Try Taylor or Dutton

I would rather have seen Hilliard pitch against Texas, even though he might be less consistent game to game. Experience plus the ability to mix up pitches is critical in games like this.

Still, it’s early in the season and Jay might have been testing just how well Floyd can do against top teams with his limitations. He got his answer.

You should just apply for the position, as much as you complain here.

JJ ain’t sniffing Omaha this year. I said it. We don’t have the arms

They don't have the arms.
The only way to help this staff is if reyzelman can become a starter.

I just don't think they have the pitching this year.

It's cool that we won last night and it sucks that we lost tonight, but these are essentially preseason games.

Exactly. Johnson should be experimenting now. The teams in the championship are going to be the ones that keep getting better all year, that learn to scratch out runs against good pitching, that clean up the errors, and that develop a core group of pitchers that can be relied upon. It’s not the teams who win March.

CPM is objectively a better coach than JJ. Anyone who disagrees is ignorant

I disagree. It’s a matter of tense. You stated that he IS a better coach. That is false. CPM, at his best, was probably a better coach than just about anyone. But his best was a long time ago, and he had declined quite a bit. He still was great on strategy, but he had no hustle left.
