If he is going to be a very good player at a major program, he is a NFL prospect.
If he is a borderline starter at a lower level BCS school, I would suggest he go to the school with the:
1.) HC with the highest integrity
2.) Best academic program in his interests
3.) Most active alumni for life after football.
4.) Safe, family atmosphere.
5.) Teammates that he really enjoys as friends.
Well said.

I signed with a DivII school out of highschool, I had gotten a call from Nader asking if I would walk on at LSU. I took the scholarship and went away. I was the best freshman on the team but felt like the school was a complete joke and I was admittedly homesick(silly I know) came home went SLU Always regret not going to LSU and walking on and at least trying to get on special teams are something. Tell the kid to go where he would be happiest overall and don't settle.

what would you expect from his head coach.
pick the right school, because 3/4 of what the coach is telling him is a lie...

1) Discipline
2) Fair shot
3) a coach that will help him progress
4) program stability, I'd like to be comfortable that the coach would be there throughout my sons tenure
5) all other factors

Just thought it would be interesting seeing what people would want for their son in a head coach.
Obviously my son would ONLY go to LSU. But trying to be objective here and I have tons of respect for Ohio State with regards to head coach, stability, education.

a degree
I agree. I have always stated athles should get a degree before going pro to have something to fall back on......and go to a Univ. where they have a degree in whatyou want to be.......

If my son metioned anywhere else than LSU Id punch him in the frickin nose.

if he's not going pro, how about a redshirt year, so he is sure to graduate while he's on scholarship, and maybe even get a head start on graduate work.

If he is strong/athletic and tough enough to play SEC football, he might punch back. If he is not, LSU probably wouldn't offer. ;)

If he didn't have pro potential I'd take the offer from Harvard.

honesty about playing time opportunity/chance to compete, allowing position coaches to coach without unqualified interference, enforcement of team rules, good mentor (not a buddy).

Don't think Harvard offers athletic scholarships....or any Ivy League school for that matter
But I share your sentiment...so with all that said I'd hope he could be happy at Vandy, Stanford, Notre Dame etc....it's gotta be where makes sense for him though, where he is the happiest and puts him in the best position to succeed as far as life goes....not forcing anything on him...
