look to Stanley Bertman. He did not want another Nick Saban type that would run shite his own way, he wanted a yes man that would say how high when Skip told him to jump. And he got his yes man at a cheap price.

Very true, and very 'Smokish'.....

the first hire Alleva made, he knocked out of the park. Lets hope it continues.

I'm just not convinced Alleva will step up and make the necessary changes?????

Agreed, Bertman hires who he wants in his best interest and not the best interest of the university.

Bertman wanted someone he could control and not a saban like coach who wants power

everyone praised Skip Bertman like he was a great AD but he was anything but. He botched the hiring process for football and damn near did it in baseball and got lucky the 5th guy he offered panned out.

PM was his fifth choice. He tried to get Wells and Bianco, they said no. Bertman had already burned some bridges when he hired Smoke because of the Camp money and he wanted the new coach to keep certain assistants.

wasn't really a "wow" hire though...

Stanley was a great baseball coach.

neither was Saban in 2000....

You are correct sir, Skip's ego was larger than Saban's and he hated it. That is why he hired Les, and didn't want another high profile coach. Del Rio was the perfect guy and wanted the job, but had to wait 1 and 1/2 weeks until the NFL season was over.
