Who are you spying on if a QB doesn’t run?

Well the spy portion is secondary, but a non-mobile QB is rare these days.

Id give him free reign on pass rush downs.

Lineup wherever you want and kill the qb.

Want to go off edge? Cool
Through the A gap? Cool

Nobody denies he can have a spot for pass rush downs

Everything in between is the issue

Why not use him like last year? He is not going to be effective at that weight very likely. BK is making some curious decisions.

JD5 for Heisman!

That's why he needs to be an edge-spy full time and not a "linebacker".

He’s going to get mauled by talented lineman at that position. Doesn’t have the length or technique required to play the edge like that every play. Now, I agree on 3rd down, you can line him up outside and him and the tackle can pull out each others dick and see who is better, but that’s not an every down strategy.

It seems like they want Perkins to be our Isaiah Simmons. A long, angular LBer who can spy the QB while extending into passing lanes, and still be a threat to blitz.

But boy did it look awful against FSU. That game was a blow out, but it being football one or two successful rushes from Perkins off the edge could have flipped the game. Coaches really need to get this one figured out.

It’s also why it will be hard for any defensive player to ever surpass Mathieu in my mind.

Oregon, West VA, Arkansas and Georgia games are all potential LSU loses if not for magical plays by Mathieu. As is LSU won most of those going away and his impact masked a lot of deficiencies.

We needed a couple of game breaking plays on defense/special teams to have a chance against an overall better FSU team and no one delivered.

He's not an every down player right now anyway.

He's still sub-2020, which isn't even proper off ball LB size.

He also kind of sucks at playing off ball LB, so his impact becomes negative quickly.

30 plays of creative use > 60 snaps of what we got Sunday

Derrick Thomas was 230lbs. Play Perk at Jack LB and work on pass rush skill.

At the end of the day, that is the reality of the situation right now

But nobody wants to hear it, probably including him

Or he could play on the edge and move around during the game like he did last year. Why are fixing something that wasn’t broken?

As is, he isn't near as effective inside as he is outside. It doesn't take a football "expert" to see it. A horrible decision that they are now committed to. Although, he did play outside some during the game, but didn't seem totally committed to rushing. He seemed reserved.
