Neaux. Just neaux. Middleton needs to be removed from the quad. The library needs to be relocated across from the Union.

I'd like to be able to do several things:

endow a couple of professorships at a salary level high enough to draw the very best

redo Hatcher, Hodges, and Johnson: totally clean out the buildings (asbestos and lead mitigation); if structurally possible, add several floors and some decent elevators. the lower floors can stay as office space, the new upper floors would be dormitory space

do the mitigation and cleanout of West and South Stadium dorms and make them into something useful...

look at a design for a multi story parking garage on old Alex Box that would include RV hookups on the top level (something like the municipal lots in Knoxville by the Marriott)

a couple of pet projects involving ROTC:
cadet band - we used to have one
memorial tank - those who know me know exactly what kind of tank too

this list could eat up a bunch of money quickly

If I gave say $25 million, it would look like this:

1. Cost to blow up kirby smith
2. Cost to tear down middleton
3. Remainder to College of Business for endowments.

I agree that it never should have been put there, and I hate that the cruciform quadrangle was essentially ruined by it. But it is a very convenient location, and it isn't realistic to expect the primary library to be moved. We're stuck with it; might as well bring it into the 21st century. Imagine if it resembled the rest of the quad from an aesthetic perspective?

I have no problem with getting rid of Middleton in its present location, where exactly are you talking about putting it? HELL NEAUX if you're talking about the Parade Ground...

My point exactly. There isn't really another reasonably convinient location to put such a high-traffic, important building.

Middleton really is such a piece of shite, though. Hill Memorial Library is beautiful, but if it could undergo enormous expansion, that might be a legitimate alternative.

Get rid of Lockett and put it there. Or put it in the parking lot next to Tureaud.

That's a pretty aggressive plan. I haven't been to the Quad in years so don't know about the problems with Middleton. When I was a student and used to go in there it seem alright. Hatcher I agree is bad, I remember being there a few times and thinking it needed to be blown up.

How much, if any, would you donate to LSU and what would you expect from it?

Not off of the top, but something in the neighborhood of 10%, if a windfall of that magnitude. Personally, I would establish a scholarship fund, probably for the medical school, or a foundation to fund a research grant for cancer research. I would try to get a suite at Tiger Stadium out of the deal, but that's a different discussion.

Where the East Campus Apartments are now. That is the natural epicenter of LSU on campus housing.

It's south of fraternity row, west of sorority row, and east and north of the main residence halls.

Locating the library there makes the students safer, too. Coeds would have a shorter walk back to their dorms/sorority houses, especially important at night.

I would relocate the housing comprised by the East Campus Apartments to the west side of the campus.

I'd ask for architectural input on new buildings constructed with my money, to make sure they maintain the Italian Renaissance feel rather than enormous bamboo rotundas of bullshite (looking at you, new EJ Ourso building).

I would, but it would stipulate that the self-serving, arrogant administration could not touch a dime...unless I could pick five-or-more to get rid of as a condition of the gift. I would set up scholarships to benefit middle class, working families from Louisiana.

Nice thoughts. I think you should go for the suite too!
