-I said that Florida was a national champion in 06, a contender this year, had a Hiesman QB (actually someone added that after), and was a pretty damn good team last year.
- My argument is that some of the guys on the previous national championship team were stll there last year and so are some of the ones that are on the same team that is contending this year. I assert that it would take a great effort by any team to bet UF last year based on the talent level they have right now.
They were absolutely horrible on defense and one demensional on offense. That's why they lost four games. 2006 and 2008 are entirely different teams. The offense is completely different this year than last, and the defense has gone from among the worst in CFB to yielding, what, 14ppg?
I see what you're saying, but I don't agree in the slightest. You have got to be able to recognize that the teams aren't the same.

I seem to remember LSU teams that played their best ball as the season progressed, and/or in November.
2000 - After losing @Auburn and UAB at home (yes that UAB), and a shellacing at the Swamp, we did win 4 in a row through Kentucky, and the rest of the West, until Arkansas. Barely showed up in Little Rock, lost 14-3
2001 - Great Season, we finished strong, won 6 games in row. Have to go back to Mac in 1973 when we won 9 in a row (but Mac was somehow not a great coach) However, how is 2001 superior to 2006 where we won 7 in a row? Oh, that's right, we won the SEC in 2001. But we lost 3 games in 2001 and only 2...never mind.
2002 - Lost 4 out the last 6. Way to "dominate" the state of Alabama, getting beat 62-7 combined (I was at the Bama game, and I "seem" to remember that it was November. And we did not "dominate".) So it's better to get destroyed by Bama 31-0, than to lose to a (then) undefeated, #1 Bama in OT? Okay, a loss is a loss...
2003 - What can I say - great season, great team. Heck I've already forgotten the loss to Florida at home.
2004 - It's been covered. I will say, finishing the regular season with six straight wins was pretty good.
MILES:
2005 - Didn't lose a game in October or November. Did lose the SEC-CG to UGA, badly. Did have struggles against Florida (SHOCKING), Auburn, Bama and Arkansas, freakin' pushover SEC teams. However, winning 9 games in a row for the first time since 1973 should count for something, huh? Oh, that's right, Saban's players, talent trumps coaching, etc.
2006 - Did play badly at Auburn, (Saban lost every game @ Auburn, and to this day has not won a football game @ Auburn) and lost to Florida in early October. Did finish with 7 straight wins.
2007 - Yes the OT losses to Kentucky and Arkansas were unfortunate and late. We were #1 both times we played and didn't play like it in those games. However victories over Florida, Auburn, Alabama and Tennessee in the same season NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE. Can that, along with the SEC and BCS championships go a little way to easing the pain? BTW, LSU has a losing record against Florida, Alabama and Tennessee, probably the only three teams that we play regularly that have that advantage over us. And we just barely have a winning record over Auburn.
2008 was bad, what can I tell you. We will finish 7-6 or 8-5 and call it a bad season. Even though I sat through a lot of losses in the 90s, I will call it bad because of the how.
But I'm not going to sit back and listen to how great the previous coach was, when the current coach, overall, has outperformed him in every objective measure available.

Saban's players have made him better than we thought he was. Now it seems he is who we originally thought he was.
AND WE LET HIM OFF THE HOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure you've heard this all before but here goes:
You have 3 options the way I see it.
1) run a safe play to center the field goal kick.
2) Say "screw it" and let the clock run down where you call your timeout with X seconds left to go (if Tubby doesn't use his) to kick the field goal.
3) run a play to the endzone. An incompletion stops the clock where you can decide what to do from these same three options.
For the sake of brevity I'm going to leave out all of the other crazier options like throwing short of the goal line and such.
Obviously Miles chose 3 while you totally disagree because it took too long and the ball could have hovered in the air for 4 or 5 seconds more.
So Miles' decision gives us two chances to score while you decision puts the entire game on one play. Tony Romo would say take a shot at the endzone because you just never know about that snap, place, and kick. Especially the "place" part.
Just because ESPN said there was 1 second left doesn't mean you have to blindly believe them. ESPN dumbs entire game and strategy down into a 30 second highlight clip.
The clock stops when the TD signal is given or the incompletion sign is given. If you'd watch the replay the official takes his sweet time signalling the TD. (drama in Tiger Stadium is always better savored for a few seconds)
My question is this: If you would have kicked the field goal instead of run the play, why wouldn't you have kicked the filedgoal on the previous play? We were within fieldgoal range. Throwing the ball only puts it up for an interception as you've said.
Answer: Some of us were born to coach and some of us were born to watch from the stands.

How about Miami in 2001 --- pulling Nebraska in the title game instead of Oregon or Colorado?
Miles earned the title. He schemed and game planned well enough to be in the BCS National Champ and then planned well enough to win it. He has taken LSU to bowls three years in a row and won those games by large margins. He has double digit wins over teams ranked in the top 10. In 2006 he went 2-2 on the road against top 10 teams (we were the first team in over 30 years to play 4 top ten teams on the road).
I really don't know what you are looking for. He has the best 4 year coaching record in LSU history. You should know as much as anybody what his accomplishments are. If you choose to ignore them that is your prerogative.

No, the scoreboard said one second. Don't know what ESPN said.

yet the replay clearly showed that the clock operator let 3-4 seconds tick off the clock after Byrd caught the pass

How about LSU in 2003 when we needed Boise State to beat Hawaii to get a higher score in the computer rankings (hurt several pac 10 schools).
Every year involves luck. Look at this year, Oklahoma needed the voters to screw Texas.

I'm sure it's been pointed out many times over, but I certainly find the fact SFP said "without pointing out his NC" hilarious.
Isn't the same as saying - If you consider Gene Chiznik a bad HC please give examples why...but you aren't allowed to use his record!

The only year in recent memory that luck didn't play a part was the USC vs. UT game as both went wire to wire. Well, maybe some bad luck for AU that year.

Only losing six games in 3 years?
The titles speak for themselves, plus he played for one that we didn't win.
Your "we got lucky" argument doesn't hold water to me. Every NC comes as a result of some luck and good fortune.

1. Great recruiter
2. Hires great coordinators (one messup when Muschamp screwed us last year leaving us with Mallveto, but he'll have another great hire this time around)
3. No guts, no glory mindset in-game strategy against teams with equal or more talent (which is one reason we've won so many Top10 games under Miles)
4. Excellent ambassador for LSU in terms of the quality person he is
5. Great recruiter (it's worth putting twice since recruiting is 75% of the battle in college football)
to name a few...

4 or 5 seconds more? Byrd fell down with possession it seems at 3 seconds, so unless we're going into the negatives, I don't know where 4 or 5 comes from. And I don't totally disagree with taking a shot downfield, but that's a risky play (into tight coverage) and too much time went off.

Or it gives us no shot if it's knocked around or intercepted. Just because it worked out doesn't make it a good call.

The scoreboard read 00:01 left. The officials reviewed the time too I believe and stuck with that.

You always try to get closer. Run an out pattern to the sidelines to stop the clock and gain yards. Run it up the middle maybe on a play action and see what you get.

And some who were born to coach were also born to frick up an entire season and have a sub .500 record in the SEC and LUCK into a MNC with a few plays here and there. The Miles' apologists are some of the most delusional mother frickers around.

It was a great call, a great call that was intended to be thrown with about 10-15 seconds left on the clock. Flynn fricked that up when he took forever to get the team to the line.

If USC or UGA had made it to the NC would you call them lucky?

Theres nothing to apologize for. I dont understand why there are even "Miles haters".
Give me a couple of GOOD reasons why you would fire him?

Miles had by far the best team in the conference last year and still managed to lose to two very average teams. I can forgive the uk loss but the loss to arky is inexcusable. the guy is just not that great of a "gameday coach".
