With this kind of recruiting success, our 3rd or 4th place finish in the West should be convincing, solid, guaranteed.

Book it!

This is why a certain crowd will always be perennially disappointed with certain teams and players. It's not about the freshmen you're bringing in, it's about the guys you already have on campus.

The last time we had a #1 overall class was in 2009.
2009: 9-4 (5-3)
2010: 11-2 (6-2)
2011: 13-1 (8-0)

However, we also had the #2 overall class in 2014.
2014: 8-5 (4-4)
2015: 9-3 (5-3)
2016: ?????

The guys that we sign will undoubtedly compose an elite team in due time, but this team belongs to Fournette, Harris, Dupre, Pocic, Godchaux, Adams, Beckwith, White and others.

There's a video they show visiting recruits. Its a hype video like 10 mins long. Its shown only in the Lawton room. Its AMAZING! The entire video has a miles locker room speech playing in the background. It made ME want to play for Les Miles. I guarantee you that video has something to do with it, its incredible. I wish they would release it to the public.

the arse-backwards "logic" on this board is just shocking... keep an underachieving coach because he's a good recruiter.

With that "logic" you can NEVER fire Miles.

Almost definitely the answer is no.

With that said, he had better translate the recruiting success and returning players and everything that is going our way into an SEC championship season at the very least this year. Otherwise we are just an 8-4, 9-3 team every year with top 5 recruiting classes.

Very impressed with recruiting and DC hire. Miles needs to show improvement on O this year with all we have coming back.

I don't think we're even in the top 25.
We lost a lot with Miles.

If LSU replaces him with Jimbo or someone who a top flight QB was going to follow, we would have been fine. Maybe even better.

TGFN57- you're such an idiot do you know what Red Herring is?
Definition of Red Herring "is something that misleads or distracts from a relevant or important issue."
You're acting like the #1 recruiting class will fix our offense, and serious coaching problems. It won't fix those things. We're all glad we have the number #1 class, but most fans want to win more than recruiting titles.

Unless you replaced him with Nick Saban, then no.

You all seriously need to fire Duke Lacrosse Scandal Alleva and hire Dale Brown to be your AD.

in the last 3 years, with our elite recruiting, our SEC record is 14-10, and we've gone 9-9 in the SEC West.

It's not really negativism, it's just observing the situation with eyes wide open and seeing reality for what it is.

In 2010, we had the 4th rated class in the SEC.
In 2011, we had the 4th rated class in the SEC.
In 2012, we had the 5th rated class in the SEC.

During that time, we're 3rd in wins in the conference despite heavy attrition to the NFL from players who chose to forego their final season(s) of eligibility.

So open your eyes and see reality for what it is.

We were no worse than no. 8 in the country each of those years. Given the imperfect science of ranking recruits, I'd say there's just a tiny difference between the elite teams in those rankings. Bottom line, our recruiting has been elite and I think that's pretty much universally acknowledged. .

And where were these elite recruits after three years? The issues with the team the last several years has been QB recruiting/development and having to recruit against an NFL career and I think that's pretty much universally acknowledged.

Yes I know exactly what a red herring is. I also know what a total clown you are. You obviously know nothing about football. All you and those of your ilk know is how to whine about things with nothing constructive or factual to back it up. Now go back to your video football game clown.

Getting rid of Miles would have been a giant mistake, and anyone who doesn't see that is someone whose intelligence should be questioned.

rivals had LSU ranked #18 class in 2012 and #6 in the SEC.

depends on how you define 'elite'. IN comparison, Alabama has had the #1 class 7 out of the 8 last years (the year they weren't #1 they were #2). Now that is elite.

But it seems we are on a roll and starting to close the gap especially in the trenches. HOpe we can maintain the momentum. If we can close the talent gap and update our offense then anything can happen.

if we didn't get Jimbo

Are we still living in the fantasy world where jimbo leaves his national champion program to come to LSU and have to beat Alabama, Auburn, and Florida each year to have a shot at being in the top four?

Saban's last year LSU was 9-3 and 16th ranked.

If Les was gone we would be 15-20 in recruiting.
