He doesnt even have do succeed!!! all im asking is for him to THROW the freaking ball SOMEWHERE, ANYWHERE, down the field when its 4th down on your own 30. If it would have been picked, guess what thats even better than a sack!

2. More three step drops if he isn't rolling out. WE did this early with some success getting the ball out quick for 7-10 yard gains, then inexplicably went away from it.

We also did this a couple times in the second half at Georgia, short slant passes. Toliver caught one pass for about 8 yards, Dickson the other for about 10, and then one of those guys (Dickson I think) dropped a sure-catch pass of about 10 yards. It's amazing how fast, nifty and successful these plays were, but after the Dickson dropped pass, I don't recall seeing it again in that game. Everyone wants to see Jefferson sling the ball, but I'd take 5 or 6 10-yard slants during a game. 5 or 6 10-yard slants: that's 5 or 6 extra first downs.

should have put Lee in for the two minute offense with 6 minutes left in the game. He excelled in that package last year against Aub and Alabama and to an extent GA. Moved the chains and put points on the board. Made the defense cover the whole field.

I pretty much threw in the towel on any drive we had to go more than 10 yards to get a first. That is sad

Agree, you just cant take a sack on 4th down. Also he needs to learn to "step up" in pocket and this will buy him some time. Im sure the coaches mentioned this after GA game but he still hasnt learned.

yeah it was tough to hold out hope Bilj. You know he wasn't going to scramble for 10-15 yards against Fla like he did against GA and he was flustered back there in the 4th quarter and seeing things that weren't there and not seeing things that were there.

Can we also agree then that Jefferson has looked okay at some points this season? I thought he was great v. Washington and pretty good v. MSU. From reading some of today's posts, you'd think he sucked from day one this season. His past two games have been pretty brutal, but then again, they've been against the best teams we've faced so far. I haven't given up on him; I figure the problems over the past two games have been a combination of him and our o-line together. I'd let him start against Auburn, and if he can't get things going toss Lee in during the game.

RYNO, Maybe if we "fragged" a piece of Mauk or Flynn from the past we could put a complete package out there....

PS. Now you'll figure out how we know each other.

Fragged? I'm sorry bro I'm not sure you have the right guy here. You're going to have to give me more than that.

I was telling a friend after the game that we need to employ the "Herb Tyler" playbook as far as rollout passes/out patterns.

Made that same comment to someone a couple of weeks ago.

1. We should be rolling him out of the pocket to throw on the run. He does this well and it eliminates one side of the field for him to read. HE can't read the whole field anyway and this will reduce his reads to 2 and get him in position to get more yards if he tucks it and runs.

i was screaming this all game. i thought maybe i missed a rule change that made rolling the pocket a penalty. shocking the coaches never tried this

3. Kill the Option play. It hasn't worked, isn't working, and will never work and wastes downs.

agree

4. is it just me or does jordan jefferson's 7 step drop off play action seem like the longest 7 step drop of all time. he drops back at least 8-10 yards from LOS. ciron black seems to think he his controlling his man and pushing him behind jefferson only to turn around and see jefferson won't step up in the pocket.

Pretty much have decided the best strategy is JJ and Shep to start the game, second half. Lee when we need a drive and in the red zone. I have little confidence in the present offense being able to score when needed. The UGA game does give some hope, but that was done with an incredible grab by Randle and JJ's legs out of the pocket. Don't think against a better defense this offense can sustain a drive when needed.

Completely agree, Ryno. Put the QB in a position to succeed by stressing the things he does well. I agree with all three of your points.
