Gruden probably isn't a bad choice... but my first pick would be... and nobody has mentioned him... but Brian Kelly from ND. He turn Cinn around into a BCS bowl and then ND around. Granted they don't have the size up there, but I think he'd be good here IMO.

Some people on this board are drinking way too much about coaching possibilities.

David Shaw's next job will be in the NFL. Why would he leave Stanford for LSU, seriously?

When you are successful at Stanford, the NFL is your next stop, period. Bill Walsh, Dennis Green, John Harbaugh, and next in line is David Shaw.

Jack Del Rio does not want the LSU job, even when it was open. He is all USC's for the taken.

Jim Mora, Jr. next job will be in the NFL. The next college team he ever coaches will be his Alum: University of Washington.

Bo Pellini would be a bad choice for anything at LSU. He lost his swagger in Lincoln, NE.

Charlie Strong is all Florida when that job opens.

Chris Peterson has no interest in the LSU job.

There are your tidbits for the evening.

Mike Tomlin

Recruits may get confused and think he is Kevin Sumlin (Sumlin to USC).

Saban to Pittsburgh to set this all in motion. Texas rumors are slight of hand. Book it...

Go after Bobby Petrino before another major program hires him from Western KY. I realize that it's not an ideal hire for the obvious reasons, but I sincerely believe he could do a better job as long as he stays off of motorcycles

Realistic choices. Patterson/Peterson are not going anywhere.

My list in order:

Dantonio
Strong
Briles
Golden
Taggert - having an awful season but a great coach & will turn it around
Pep Hamilton - great OC but never a head coach.
Fisher - doubt he would leave FSU for anything.

Charlie Strong would be a monster at LSU with the right offensive coordinator. His ties to Florida recruiting, defensive background, hate of Florida for passing over him and knowledge of the SEC would be an awesome combination.

Has anyone mentioned Sean Payton, coach of the New Orleans Saints? I think he would be a good hire. He did a good job with the Saints. He would have to adjust to the college game but also any NFL coach would have to make that adaptation. Also Pete Carrol, as much as we detest his years at USC, would be good also IMHO. What do you guys think about those two? No sure thing but would be good to take a chance on and are more proven IMHO than Grueden.

that's just dumb. Payton and Carrol are better in my opinion. PLus Petrina would be a step in the wrong direction. We need to try to close the gap to Alabama

I'd kill to have either, but what makes you think SP and Petie will be leaving their very successful NFL teams in the near future?

well since this is just a theoretical thread why not go for them. I don't see Miles leaving any time soon and since it is just theory, let's go for a good coach that might be able to compete with Saben in recruiting.

I really like David Shaw but I do not know if he would come to LSU/SEC.

The most available and credible candidate right now is Jimbo Fisher. I was appalled at his low salary at FSU which is most likely to rise by end of season.

Would be intriguing. Certainly wouldn't be intimidated about playing in the SEC.
