Seems like 13-17 or 14-16 is a safe bet.

That being said, what happens??

He has a contract through 2024

If he wanted to push it he probably could, I don’t think he wants to
I think he negotiates retirement at the end of the season

Paul's getting another season unless he retires. Results are mostly irrelevant right now

I agree with you. He doesn't look like he is very happy

I think some serious conversations will be had after this season, regardless of the win total, but it will ultimately be up to Paul. They're not firing him, but they will definitely discuss an exit strategy. I think he's ready to go anyway.

If we get to 13 or 14 SEC wins, we will have improved enough to win at alot of regional sites and some super regional sites.

13 or 14 is still going to be awfully hard to get to with the upcoming schedule
It doesn't get any easier against USC, Ark and Ole Miss

Some of those 13/14 wins will have to be against the better opponents on the schedule.

Let's assume LSU takes 1 of 3 against both Ole Miss and Arkansas

That would leave this team with needing 9 wins in 12 games to get to 14.

I think 12 wins is more reasonable with the current rotation and lack of coaches to make the correct moves.

The RPI will be strong as ever on a positive note.

Completely agree. 12 will even be tough. 14 would be insane.

They aren’t finishing at 13-17 or 14-16

Won't matter if we only have 12 SEC wins. The committee will not go over 8 SEC teams.

Arky
Ole Miss
Florida
Vandy
Tennessee
State

All locks. Then you have two wildcards at most. UGA and USCe are both strong contenders of those last two spots. But then you have to contend with Kentucky and Bama too. Bama's current RPI is 17. Kentucky's is mid 50s. A&M is down in the 100s so I'm not considering them but they are about to play at Arky, at State, and Tenn which will boost their RPI to the 40s even without a win.

Why? The SEC's RPI as a whole should be better than anytime it's ever been.

2017 - 8
2018 - 10
2019 - 10

Because as much as people are saying how stacked the SEC is, you have more mid majors and strong teams from other conferences too. I know 10 has happened recently, but I don’t see 9+ this year given how many good teams there are everywhere.

You can make a Regional with a losing record?

That would be a monumental turnaround.

He'd be back in that case.

Should be Super Regional appearance or bust.

There is no reason why LSU should not be a top 16 team.

Having two key pitchers out with injury is tough, but injuries are part of sports.

All that being said, it is probably up to him if he continues.

Yes CPM stays if LSU's makes the supers. I don't like it but, that's how it will happen. LSU leadership and fans are content with supers it's pathetic.

So being in the top 16 in baseball is pathetic but when the basketball team makes the top 32, it’s most excellent and the coach should be given a lifetime contract. I realize that it’s different sports with different histories but it’s still LSU!
