dude we have cheerleaders that can throw the ball better than jj did, if you realy belive that shep was worse than jj is the reason for him not playing, you need your meds

I need my meds?
I watched RS compete against other highly recruited QBs in the high school all-star game and challenge competition, and he looked bad. On the long ball challenge he threw the worse duck I have ever seen. It has been noted by many others who have seen him throw just how bad his arm strength is. Shep got his shot at QB and it didn't work out, as predicted by anyone with half a brain. Get over it people.

Was never proven, this is a Rant myth that has been repeated over and over again until it became truth. Maybe he wasn't a pure passer, but we certainly don't know that based on a body of evidence or any coaches words that were uttered in the media.

quote:Proof by omission, then. We desparately needed a QB, and Shep's name wasn't called.

On the trick plays, the staff chose Ware to throw the passes, not Shep.
To me, that's enough proof.

Guess those HS films are pure fantasy.
Shep could put the ball downfield and is by far a better running QB than JJ.
Not sure anybody could do worse than JJ at QB with his 5 yard passes and deer in the headlights freaking after 4 years of starting games.
Done and over. MILES fricked up and cost us a BCSNC.

It's pretty easy to believe he couldn't have done worse than we saw Monday with 4 years to prepare.

This isn't high school, this is "big boy football"
There are a lot of kids that look good in high school who can't throw on the college level. I have watched him throw in competition on ESPN against other college prospects and I was embarrassed for him.

Given 4 years, I have a difficult time believing he couldn't have been a better or more consistent "running QB" than what we had.

I have a friend who has a cousin that played with Pat White. Said he was terrible throwing the football his redshirt year. But he improved.
So even if he was terrible his freshman year throwing the ball...He should have at least given it another year to see if he can improve. At least to a decent level. In college...the running can make up for it.

1. he did not have the trait of HUGENESS. He was EASY to knock down. Cam and JJ are both HUGE.
2. He never threw one pass in a game. So... we have no idea about his passing skills. We can guess that they are not premier, based on his not once ever being tasked to throw.
what you get with RS10 is someone who can make you miss in space. If he could catch better, that would be a factor in games.

Besides the fact that shep can't throw do you realize how small shep is compared to JJ? Have you not seen shep get leveled after a catch because of his lack of size?
Think about the good dual threat QBs in college football and go look at the size of those guys. They were all big physical guys and shep is not big a physical player who can't take a lot of hits.

I don't think you understand the question.

There have been many 180-190 lb dual threat QB's.

Danny Wuerffel's arm was a joke at the NFL level but I seem to remember him shredding some damn strong SEC defenses. Clever playcalling can hide all kinds of things.
Aside from Lee's starts in '11, LSU has gone three years with no passing attack to speak of. Even if he was as bad a passer as JJ Shep's legs would have been a huge improvement.

shep may not be fundamentally sound qb, but the dude is a playmaker. For you all to say that he doesn't belong here, or to be playing ball is ridiculous. You punks are waaaay to negative on here.

This
I was so excited that Shep was coming to LSU but les keeps wasting talent.

Agree and I'm glad he stayed. I wish they would have tried to get him the ball more this year.

Because he can not throw.
