You take Crean & you absolutely run. And I mean like right now.

This guy took over an absolute dumpster fire at Indiana. He won the regular season Big Ten title LAST YEAR. He was Big Ten Coach of Year LAST YEAR. He took them to 3 Sweet 16s. Just being young & hungry doesn't mean a thing. Will Wade hasn't even been anywhere longer than 2 yrs & had a program that was rolling handed to him. If these are our 2 options, it's a no-brainer. Keep your flavor of the month VC.

That would be & & awesome, but there's no chance in hell Alleva does that deal.

Crean would probably be in the Tony Bennett style "Too evolved and Expensive" for Alleva to fool around with.

Damn shame that the Top 2 at LSU have such low standards of excellence for LSU Sports. (FKA/Alleva)

Crean would be terrible at lsu

He is a world class a-hole who couldn't sign one single in state player at Indiana the last three years and relied on national recruiting

You aren't going to survive on national recruiting at lsu

I disagree. LSU basketball needs someone young like Wade to shake things up.

To be fair he doesn't have 3 other top flight basketball schools in the state to recruit against here.

To be fair, if you go 0/14 on Indiana players at IU, something is wrong

I would be happy with either of them. I just want to be in the tourney 4 out of every 5 or 6 years and make a good run (sweet 16 or better) one of those years. I know that's not reaching for the stars but after what has transpired recently I've been beat down a little.

They're both defensible hires. The question is which way you're most comfortable with. Do you go with the young coach on the way up, or the older coach on the way down?

Crean is clearly a highly capable coach who will improve the program. But whether he can (1) sell the program or (2) recruit after flaming out at Indiana more as a matter of style than substance are things which are questionable. If everybody thinks he's a dick, he'll struggle to recruit and fill the seats.

With Wade, there is much more of a "betting on the come" involved. That said, the level of success he's had at only 34 years old is substantial, and he could have a great deal more upside than Crean at this stage of his career.

I'm going to say LSU is in a position to roll the dice, since the program is flat on its back. If Wade has a tenure like Jones did, you're no worse off than you are now. But if he turns out to be a superstar, you might have a Billy Donovan type difference maker.

Yes. I am telling you he is a world class a-hole. And that is going back to his Marq days

At least Alleva and Nunez flew to Richmond to meet with Wade, it was a short trip, but at least there seems to be interest. Fingers crossed Wade isn't using LSU to force Clemson to make a decision on Brownell.

I agree with you. I know ppl have their reservations about Crean but the Big 10 is much better than given credit for. Also if we saw our players coached by him compared to what Jones I think the difference would be so great ppl will quickly lose their skepticism. Wade is also a good coach I like the style of play and the aggressive defense. The thing we really need is a coach who emphasises attacking the offensive glass. If you notice the consistent tourney coaches teams attack the glass relentlessly and down south with our athleticism it's something we've missed and really need.

That's better than Kermit or Stansbury, but is it down to just those two? Or are these just the first reports of folks we've actually made contact to.

LSU has been to the final four more recently than a Tom Crean coached team.

6 of 9 seasons finishing 6th place or worse in the Big Ten standings, including 3 out of his last 4.

It's not like we'd be stealing Indiana's coach. He was fired.
