with Pete we never made it to the NCAA tournament

When Pete was at LSU, only 25 teams went to the tournament. Just because LSU wasn't one of those 25 teams doesn't mean they "weren't a pimple on the arse...". Everyone who followed NCAA basketball knew who LSU was.

And the generation before that, everyone knew who Bob Petit was. And the generation before that, some consider LSU having won a championship.

Was LSU Kentucky? No. No one else was, or has been. And Dale was no Skip.

Yep.

Do you know who else was?

That's right, Dale "Do-You-Know-Who-I-Am?" Brown.

at least he apologized for that

I've met him a number of times and have actually flown the team on a couple of charters when he was still the corch, he's been nothing but a class act towards me every time I've been around him, now he can get on those players asses behind closed doors, and he did not mince words either

I actually appreciate the good works he's done, but I just don't lionize him. I'm not sure I'd name the court after him - but then, I wouldn't name the court after anyone.

he did good by us and deserves props for that, and I agree about your lionizing thought, I think people are making too big of a deal about this on here, if we go naming things and making statues for everyone that had a decent few years here we'll not only dilute the tribute but we'll run out of things to name here real quick

That’s exactly what I was thinking. So we are going to have to call it the” Pete Maravich assembly center at Dale Brown Sue Gunter Court”….

that sounds utterly ridiculous to me!

Had both coaches been recognized from the start, I don’t think it would have detracted from the honor for either. That said, it seems strange and inappropriate to change it now, a year after it was announced and celebrated as Dale Brown Court. I also question the wisdom of naming a stadium or court after either of the two coaches, especially since neither won a national championship. This raises questions about the future, such as what will happen when (not if) Kim Mulkey wins a national title.

Is there actual proof that Dale is upset about sharing the court name?

Dales a pretty cool dude too. Met him in 89 in Oxford. Stopped a postgame interview to sign my program. Hung and talked Mississippi coast basketball 20 minutes after a game.

If Dale wasn’t upset he wouldn’t have his minions clutching their pearls about it. He is a narcissist

If he was pleased he’d be all over the TV cameras (little hint he loves attention) telling us how honored he is for Sue and to share the naming.

Go read Brando’s Twitter on how this has deeply hurt Brown for as close of proof you need.

If he wasn't directing them to do a media tour in opposition he would've told them, especially Brando, to lay off it.

I think that's fair. I would say if the 64-team tournament which came about in the early to mid 80's has existed then we likely would have made the tournament Pete's senior year.

Conversely Dale probably doesn't make the tournament in most of the years he did had the same criteria existed for making the tournament that existed in Pete's era.

I think it also should be pointed out that even under today's standards Pete's first two teams very likely don't even make the NIT.

I would agree 100% here. And that would have diffused this whole mess before it got started.

That he didn't says all you should need to know about how he feels about it IMHO.

Plus it has been reported he was approached about it before it became public and he was not at all happy, so there's that too.

Everybody building statues & names courts is ridiculous. There are about 10 maybe 12 college coaches total that deserve that.
