If I’d told you a month ago

There’s a lot to complain about, but I’ve gotten it out of my system.

The defense will continue to improve, if Nuss won’t ever pull on the read then we need to trash the read, I’m confident our O-line under Davis and Kelly will figure out how to run block, and getting your 2,3 spot receivers back in the lineup certainly won’t hurt.

USC is definitely not terrible, and the jury is still way out on this team.

The only truly catastrophic scenario imaginable is if Sloan bombs, gets fired, and Underwood decommits. Second worst scenario is we never find a running game without an option QB.

Point being, I’m not that worried yet.

In all seriousness, losing 5 consecutive season openers on one like that is an understandably tough pill for fans here to swallow.

It’s not rational to write off the season week 1, but I get it — this was a tough L & concerns over first-time playcaller are fair.

But we always improve through the season & the offense has the personnel to be much more effective than they were this week if they fix some very fixable things.

I’m actually very happy to not want to look away when the defense takes the field, and they will only get better.

Yeah I set my expectation at 3 losses, but I think we could split one of Ole Miss / Bama & wind up with just 2.

If we drop 3 or more additional games, 4-loss season would definitely be a disappointment & Kelly ultimately may not last the full contract..

On the other hand, if we manage to win all but one remaining — that might be a playoff team & you feel great rolling into next year.

If we wind up exactly at 3 Ls, it’s “meh” but in line with preseason expectations for 2024. How I feel about the program at that point depends on how things play out with Sloan.
