Craziest comic-book finish to a football game ever. It really looked bleak with the Tigers at their own 8 with 9 seconds left!

This must be the only game in history to feature a losing coach (Guy Morriss) getting a Gatorade bath, and fans of a LOSING team tearing down goalposts! I think that underscores the sad state of Kentucky football.

LSU was emotionally spent after the wild win. Imagine the very next week the Tigers were pounded in Death Valley by a Franchione-coached Bama team 0-32.

I was at the Big Woodrow's in Houston for that game with a few friends. There were a couple of fairly young female Kentucky fans next to us that were becoming more and more obnoxious as the game went on. Since they were outnumbered so badly by our fine, upstanding LSU fans, I was trying to cut them a little slack.

When the outcome looked bleak, I asked for my tab to be closed (along with everyone else) and would have been gone by the time of the Devery (aka Jack Hunt) TD.

The faces of those two Kentucky fans were similar to the fans they were showing on TV. I almost felt bad for them.

I was watching the game at SRO (now long defunct) on Cutten Rd @ FM 1960 with a HUGE contingent of LSU fans. The place was chaotic after the Devery TD.

were they able to tear down the goalposts, and if so, was that the only time in football history that the losing fans tore down their goalpost?

I'm not sure but if they did, it's because it went from celebration to anger

No, the goalposts did not come down. It did take a long while for the last couple of fans to realize what happened, though.

Unfortunately, Karma is a bitch. Arkansas got us in a similar fashion that same season which cost us a spot in the SECCG. They call it the Miracle on Markham which is right on the money. It was a miracle that Matt Jones was able to pass Arky down the field in just seconds. It's hard for me to laugh at UK fans when I was one of the LSU fans in Little Rock who was celebrating on his way out of the stadium when Birmingham caught the pass to beat us.

I did not realize until just now that Jefferson Pilot posted the score as Henderson ran into the end zone:

Final

LSU 27
Kentuck 30

About a second later, after Henderson ran into the endzone, they pulled it.

LSU football. Did you place a bet on kentucky?

actually Kentucky beat the spread that game... so a bet on UK would've paid off
