i almost never use "best" when in this discussion, to avoid people trying to sound intellectual without any substance (like rex is doing). if he's claiming that the best is impossible to judge, then fine. no system works

You certainly have a right to your opinion, but I disagree. While it's very unusual, Alabama is clearly the second best team, and the logical choice to play in the championship game. And, yes, it is something of a "double jeopardy" to LSU, but Alabama didn't make the decision. That's just the way things happened.

While I think they're the only team with a good chance to beat us, we beat them once, and we can certainly do it again. I think the attitude of the players will be to look forward to the game, and play their best football. That's all anyone can ask.

naw. pre-title game bama has 1 loss and UGA has 2.

So let's set the BCSNCG according to the "pre-title" standings. Whoever loses the SECCG is the runner up. Bama is the SEC #3.

Nope your argument is incorrect. Bama's case is made because it played LSU. If LSU had blown Bama out, Bama would not have a case. Since they played LSU close, there is an argument that they may be the closest team to LSU based on a whole season of work.

If Bama were in a different conference and had one loss, they may not be at the top of the one-loss heap. Bama's reputation as the best possible one-loss team is because of SEC's reputation (Bama also contributed to this reputation by winning the BCS championship in 2009). LSU also benefited from the SEC reputation in 2007.

did that.last year and now this year. you mean 3 times in a row in a 2 year span? Let's be honest here, the law of averages do not favor us in that scenario.

.. am against Bama getting another shot...mainly because if LSU lost to Bama there would be no chance in hell the voters would give us another shot...but at the same time I think they realize LSU will roll over everyone else so they want a good game ..
******************************************************************
Exactly ... and , so if 'Bama pulls out a win , what the hell does that "prove" ... that they can go 1-1 against us if they have 6 weeks off to rest and prepare, while we play an extra game, risk injury to key players, etc etc etc, yet they walk off with the MNC .. total bullshite ..

Georgia may disagree with that second place bit.

To everyone that says Alabama is obviously the second best team: My question is what are you basing that on? I "think" Va Tech is the second best team. See how easy that is. You can list reasons all day to support your opinion but we KNOW who the better team is between LSU and Bama. Because they played and LSU beat them. The other teams we can't say that about because we haven't seen it.

Signature wins over quality teams? Who have they beat that is impressive? Penn State?

Because they play in a tough conference? They only had two legitimate tests in conference (both home games) and they lost one of them.

Alabama is in the conversation because they have history. They have a successful coach and a signature loss. Not a signature WIN. This is the human polls keeping them up there. The computers don't factor in any of that stuff. Who did you play and who did you beat. Not whether you wear houndstooth hats and bitch and moan louder than anyone else.

They lost at home. Didn't win their division. Didn't win their conference. Didn't play in the conference championship. Don't have any impressive out of conference wins (Penn State sucks).

No one outside of Alabama wants to see that shite again. If given a reasonable option, the voters will put someone else in.

Wrong! All the computers have Alabama ranked #2 and #3.

And if OSU wins next week Bama will not be #2 in the computers.

I don't care who the team is, even if it's LSU, but if you don't make your conference CG, you shouldn't play in the NCG. imo

Actually it validates the importance of the regular season.

OSU would be clear #2 had they not lost to Iowa State.

Even with OSU losing Stanford could be 2 had they not gotten run off the field by Oregon.

Speaking of Oregon even with loss to LSU they would be in conversation had they not lost to USC.

Not to mention VT coulda woulda had Clemson not beaten them.

No the regular season matters. It's just now we have to pick from a bunch teams that lost a game in the regular season.

Someone has to be 2. Who would you vote for?

Houston. They are 12-0

The regular season has always been like a playoff. That has been the argument in favor of the current system and what makes CFB so exciting. If we make the regular games less meaningful...we should just go to a playoff, at least then the regular season champ could get some advantage at the end of the year.

The top two teams in the BCS rankings that proceed the BCSNCG will be the two most deserving teams according to a combination of the computers and voters. The ranking is based upon who has earned those two positions based upon the season's body of work not an opinion who's the "best".

That we would be national Champions!!

Its become apparent to me that the national "title" game doesn't prove which team is the best in college football. Hell it doesn't even prove who out of the two teams that play the game are the best. All it does is say good job, here's a fancy football, to the team that wins on that day in January.

How in God's name is it equitable for Alabama to be crowned the best team in college football when they only have to go 1-1 against LSU, while LSU has to go 2-0 against Alabama? On top of that, How does that even prove they are better than LSU?

The title game is supposed to decide what college football team is the best in the land over that year's season.

Apparently that's not true.

I want a rematch, just so when we win, there's no "well if lsu would have played bama" whining.

Oh the LSU in me definitely wants a rematch. The day we beat Bama twice in one season would be the greatest day of my life.

I just think its a travesty and totally unfair to everyone else who has one loss across the country.
