re: I'd prefer my QB to be a better passer than a better runner

Oline was really weak at beginning of year. Nuss would have been demolished
Madking will be in here soon to tell you how the Oline doesn’t matter and how “running QBs get sacked more” as if that really means anything. It’s a skewed statistic given that a running QB has plays designed specifically for him to run this technically he’s a running back in that situation and not really a QB and the true statistic would list those as “tackles for loss” not sacks. It also doesn’t take into account that you’d have to weigh the negative yardage from said sacks against positive yardage from runs. It also doesn’t take into account that a pocket passer with a bad Oline may not necessarily get “sacked” a lot, but he may have a lot of throw away passes and hurries which can lead to turnovers.
But that’s just how the experts argue the merits of passing QBs vs running QBs and when when you should choose one over the other. I mean, what do they know?

Why don't you include the entire NCAA and take out the southern game.
Because the SEC is our peer group. And we’re still 4th in those metrics in SEC games.

We passed for 80 yards a piece against Auburn and Arkansas. Pathetic.
You said you wanted an offense to score points. We did that. That’s what I was responding to.

I want my QB to throw the ball down the field. Don’t care if it means turnovers.
Yep. Only stat that matters in an offense is long plays. Anything under 20 yards is useless.

Points count more when they’re earned by passing the ball downfield

and does not turn the ball over on a consistent basis.

Everyone knows this. Sheesh!

Is there a point where “a few” becomes too many?

No way a WR would be biased in personal gain vs team success.

LSU was 38 in the nation in scoring offense
14th converting 3rd downs
They will return just about every significant player & likely upgrade the weaker positions like RB & Center & TE.
But people don’t want to run it back
Nuss would be exciting but you will take steps backwards as he grows & adjusts.

I definitely think it's easier for a defense to stop a running qb than a passing one. Especially if there is no threat for the running one to throw down the field.

I prefer that too in most instances. The funny thing is that the vast majority of this board was saying Nuss was terrible and needed to transfer after the Southern outing. As usual, QBs are not as terrible or great as everyone immediately labels them after they have a good or bad game on this board.
Although Nuss only has 5 TDs to 5 INTs. in his career, he has a fantastic arm and a lot of potential if he could improve his decision-making and sometimes just take what is given. But considering we were down 25 when he came in, I was glad he was trying to hit a TD on every play.
To be honest, Daniels and Nuss threw numerous great passes against UGA. Our WRs dropped a couple of really nice ones from both too. If only our special teams and D had shown up...

When you’re 10th in ypa and 3rd in pass attempts that’s a lot of wasted plays.

Are we going to go after Jake Renfro in the portal?
Posted on 12/4/22 at 6:19 pm to Lester Earl
JD has a ceiling. Teams have a blueprint now. He can't throw down the field and loosen up a defense. He closed the year with 2 straight sec losses and a clunker against Arky . If he is there next year, expect another 8-4, 9-3 type season.

Heard some talk were going to land a center who has ties to coaches we have on staff. Just a guess it was him, wondering if you’d heard that.
