I would argue that players are hyped for every game.

Read today where the Tigers were tired of playing patsies and were hyped about playing Florida. That can't be true. As a former player I wanted to beat every team 100-0 and I wanted to drive block every linebacker and down lineman completely off the field. It's not like it's a 164 game season. Granted, the adrenalin will be higher for an Alabama-type game or a game when Tiger Stadium is rocking, but I can't imagine stepping on the field as an individual player and not trying to completely dominate the person in front of me. So, for me it would be a matter of "just" being hyped or being "too" keyed up.

Blast away.

I agree with the OP. It's about playung to get better and always learning. And what about Auburn, quit talking shite and go play a good game of football not the crap we have been watching.

Elite athletes hate to lose at anything, much less their sport. Elite athletes hate to beaten on any play.

If I were I would try to drive that scrub into his bench. What, I'm gonna feel sorry for him?

Then, I would expect mediocre play and a record that reflects that. Why spent 8 months in the offseason preparing for the season, going through a months worth of spring and summer practice and four days of practice every week for a dozen or more games if you aren't going to try to crush your opponent? Forget about the word "hyped" or "amped". Any competitive athlete I have been around wants to dominate on every play in football, shoot a birdie on every hole, etc.
