So none of yall like what Texas and Oklahoma do every year with the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl? Or what Georgia and Florida do every year in Jacksonville with The World's Largest Cocktail Party?
This is the wrong question. Those "neutral site" games were created well before the real commercialization of CFB as we have seen in the past 10-15 years. But for the improvements to Cotton Bowl stadium, the Texas-OU game may have moved back to a home-home series in this modern era, as did the Iron Bowl when Legion Field became a dinosaur. Same thing for the Cocktail Party. J'ville made major renovations to the old Gator Bowl in 1994. My point is all of these schools would probably prefer a home-home series, but are stuck in deep tradition. We don't have that tradition and in this era, it's the wrong time to establish something that no major program wants to participate in anymore.
And for this being "good for recruiting", that's just not true in any respects. While a recruit might find it "neat" that a game takes place in or around his hometown, an important focus in deciding to sign is "during the next 4 years, will I like the campus, the place I'll go to school, the town it's located in, the atmosphere of the stadium at home?" ANY major program does its best job of recruiting when they host a kid on campus, when they have all the tools at their disposal, the facilities, the campus, the atmosphere of game day, and for LSU, the majestic feeling of Tiger Stadium. So if I had to balance "neat" for a few kids v. the powerful influence of a home game in Tiger Stadium, I'd pick the latter every time as being best for recruiting.

So basically, you all are full of shite and can give no reason why IS is a "terrible" stadium.
Fine, you want every game to be in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. Well, when you get done wishing for everything you let me know.
And if you all will just be a little honest, you would admit that what UF-UGA does in Jacksonville and what UT-OU does in Dallas is really cool. No one is forcing those teams to keep that tradition up, they just do it. See the Iron Bowl for teams that give up on tradition for more money.
I don't think it would help recruiting, and I did state in my first post that IS would have to be upgraded to where it holds about 70-75k.
We just created the "Magnolia Bowl" out of thin air last year. I think that the LSU-Arky game at a neutral site is a much better idea.
If I'm in the minority then fine, I expected that I would be. And I'm not going to sit here forever until someone agrees with me. But quit with the IS is terrible and Shreveport sucks because I've been to Baton Rouge plenty of times and those are bullshite reasons.

I see where you're going with it, but I think playing in that stadium every year instead of TS would be horrivle.
Not to mentioned the loss of 45,000 paid attendance... It won't ever happen.

If Independence Stadium was upgraded, the loss of ticket sales would be a lot less. More like 15k.

Would be easier for me to get to, but stadium is too small to accomdate 68K LSU season ticket-holders.
Posted on 1/4/09 at 10:40 am to TexTgrTed
I thought that there were more season ticket holders than that.
Even so, it would have to be treated like a post season game with a lottery. I'm sure thats how the other teams do it.

Didn't read the whole thread. Sorry. This has already been done years ago. It won't happen again. Too much lost revenue.

Yes. Why would that make you a smartass?

Why should LSU give up the revenues to Shreveport?? It's enough to sit in the "old Grey Lady" EOY in Little Rock on a Friday.

Just asking the question , didn't want to seem like I was jumping on you . A shreveport trip would have to take the place of my one road trip or SECCG trip . I do not like the Friday game though. I certainly wouldn't want to give up our last home game every other year . The season ends to fast already .

Also consider that the OU-Texas and UF-UGa gamesare played in cities that are bigger than both cities where the colleges are located. Definitely not the case with Shreve.

Actually, Shreveport-Bossier City pop is about 375k, Baton Rouge is 230k and Fayetteville is 60k. Although I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.
Let me be clear that I see no chance of this ever happening. But I think it would be cool to do because the OU-UT game as well as the UGA-UF game gets a lot of coverage.
And it would be some loss ticket sales but if Independence Stadium was expanded it would be mitigated.
I just thought it was stupid of people to bash Shreveport and IS with no real reason. I've only lived here for four years so I have no great love for Shreveport. But I've been to Baton Rouge plenty of times and it is no Mayberry either. And IS and TS are both concrete structures with the same type of seats so WTF ever.

Yep, F all that Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving on CBS every year BS. I wish LSU would tell CBS just once to shove it every other year when the game is in Tiger Stadium. Keep it on Saturday Night or even Friday Night, just keep it at Night.....

Fail and anyway, if you're going to do Shreveport-Bossier, why don't you include BR's suburbs as well?
Posted on 1/4/09 at 1:14 pm to PiscesTiger
Fail yourself. Are you seriously linking me to something that makes Baton Rouges population include that of 10 parishes? Why don't we just include Marshall, TX and Ruston to Shreveport's population? And Bossier City is not a suburb, it is a whole other town that is seperated from Shreveport by a river.
Way to bring a lot to the thread by the way.

I think that I speak for most Hogs Fans when I say that Shreveport is the LAST place I would want to spend Thanksgiving. I think that most LSU fans enjoy the tailgating in Little Rock, and would prefer keeping the game in the Rock to keep from driving an extra 3 hours to Fayetteville. I have not been, but I know that Tiger Stadium in one of the best atmospheres in all of college football. Why change what we are currently doing. If we change anything, let's get rif of the boot, and play for a trip to Atlanta! By the way...WISCYTiger...what ind of drugs are you on? Do you want us to leave the SEC because we beat you the past two years, and for the first time since Lou Holtz, we have a coach that is capable of putting together a strong program? No disrespect to LSU fans, you guys have/had a great program, but WIscyTiger is a complete assclown!
