So unless you play a perfect game, you shouldn't criticize officiating?

The engagement and his foot halfway out was almost simultaneous....had he not slipped and hit his own bench ...no call. And 99% of the time that's a no call regardless. Flag thrown after Hurts hit the bench.

Anyone who bitches about the Hurts run, if you watch any play, you will see holding. It's part of the game, it gets called if it's obvious. Would take this crew over a Ritter crew.....

This issue is that if holding is called they do not score their only touchdown and face a third and 19. Do we still lose? Probably. But it sure changes the equation for the fourth quarter.

Oh, and it was obvious. I saw it from 70 yards away as the play was happening. Does not get more obvious than that. The picture posted earlier is excellent. 3 holds. There is no way a flag should not have been thrown.

Other than the no-call on the Etling slide I thought refs were fine.

It is frustrating seeing that even a tiny amount of offense would have won that game last night, but for a team that fired its HC mid season and is in HC limbo it went about as well as it could have.

Aranda's scheme is a beast.

I look forward to the Rant hiring and firing LSU head coaches every other day for the rest of the season.

You guys do realize that Bama had twice as many penalty calls last night as LSU?

But it's the timing of those calls against BAMA that matters!!!!

Holding can be called on every play but is generally only called when it is blatant and or directly affects the play. The holding Scarborouh dos on the Hurts TD met both criteria. That cost us 4 net points
The late hit on Etling after he slid cost us q continuation of a drive and at least 3.
The offsetting personal fouls were the difference in at least 3. (I still can't find what 65 did to warrant a flag on us)
The late hit that was granted against us maintained a drive for them
The intentional grounding call that took us out of FG range cost us 3.

Its an easy cop out when you lose.

The officiating crew from last night was not good.

Some bad calls but they didn't decide the game. No big deal.

Let me start by saying the reason we lost last night was our QB and o-line play. That is on LSU. I was in section 101 so I haven't had the liberty to look at the plays on TV yet. However, it seems like every marginal call went against us. I need to watch the following plays:

The 2nd down throw by Bama when they were in their own end zone and our DB was flying towards the QB. He saw the pressure coming and threw it away while inside the pocket. The ball wasn't within 10 yards of a single Bama player. How that wasn't a safety I will need an explanation

The offsetting personal foul penalties. Those were some absurdly late hits by Bama on that play. I think we would've had the ball on around the 15 yard line with the first down if they don't call offsetting penalties. This to me was the turning point in the game for LSU. We had to have points and is we got 15 yards there and a first we come away with at least a field goal.

The hold on our player when the Bama QB ran for a touchdown. This happened right in front of us and about half our section was screaming HOLD! How the refs didn't see that I'll never understand. They make that call and Bama not only doesn't score a TD but they're pretty much out of field goal range.

The late hit out of bounds call. This one was big but not as big as the other three.

It was an easy call when Etling slid and gave himself up and took a hit to the head, yet it didn't get called. I wonder why?

LSU lost because of poor offensive line play and weak QB play.

This is exactly why the "we have more NFL level talent than any other team" argument is specious (and hopefully we won't hear it any more). You can have the greatest defense in college football (which I believe LSU has), one full of talent that will be NFL drafted, but still not be the all-around most talented team in football. The offensive talent deficiencies and play cannot be overcome by the defense, as demonstrated Saturday.

The helmet to helmet on Etling's slide in the first quarter getting called, would literally change the entire game.

Bama has their leading tackler and signal caller ejected. We get 15 yards, and the drive stays alive. He's absent for his 11 tackles, 0.5 sacks and 1.5 TFL.

To me that was a major play to be a no call and no review by Birmingham

I saw two blatant holds that resulted in long runs by the Bama QB, one on the TD run.

The PF on the sideline was ticky tack compared with what Bama got away with earlier in the game.

There were a couple of calls that could have gone against us as well.

Refs didn't cost us the game, but they did help Bama as usual. This is expected. We have to be better to the point that refs don't matter.
