Two great things about the 97 I-Bowl:

1. Went to take a leak and missed back to back KO return touchdowns.

2. Sign after the game - "Last year we didn't get any Booty, but this year we're Faulking everybody."

I dont know if its an indication of how far we have come or just a funny growing up fact but...
My nine year old son was playing a football game on his I Touch and I over heard him say he was Brad Wing!
That would normally mean your team is pretty shitty but in LSU's case we are just LOADED all over the field.

It was 95 and 97. Maybe the two have blended together. Synapses a little worn down after all those years.

Just saying how great it is to be a lifelong fan of a team that is now 10-0 and on the cusp of its third national title in less than a decade

This is more than a cool story bro. You are talking about 1995, right? I remember that just as clearly. LSU beat Arkansas in the last game of the season 28-0 to go to a bowl game and myself and my dad were so thrilled for LSU to go bowling.

I was a student during Mike Departure's tenure. LSU football has come a long way since then.

ThIs is why I do not want a Playoff system. Those players and us fans felt something special by winning in Shreveport. A playoff system would diminish those wins for schools trying to build a program, and for us fans of those schools.

DiNardo really doesn't get the proper credit he deserves. He made us relevant.

Back then, I thought the Poulan Weedeater Indy Bowl was a gift, presumably to hardly ever be topped.

Me too we couldn't stop saying Poulan Weedeater all that week.

I set a timer on my watch to countdown to the kickoff of the Independence Bowl.

I picked the absolute worst time to be a student at LSU: Fall of 1990 to Spring of 1995. Five losing seasons, no bowl games.

That independence bowl in 95 is what made me tiger fan. I was a sophomore in high school who grew up in shreveport but had not been exposed to lsu.

I have two many memories to list from that game but my three favorite were I ran into the players that week at brookshires and I couldn't beleive I was taller than Herb Tyler. Next the kickoff return by Eddie Kennison was magical and lastly Gabe Northern was a beast on defense.

I found this video (for some reason no sound)but something funny to note is after the kennsion kick return watch the next play on the Michigan State kickoff return. Notice someone from the sideline threw a football at the michigan state player trying to confuse him. I remember seeing the guy throw it and thought that was the funniest thing to ever see happen.

1995 kickoff return

I made my mom take me to an lsu vs florida game the next year and walked to the ticket booth and bought tickets an hour before kickoff. My times have changed and the new generation needs to cherish the past decade of football success. It has been magical!

Sid I remember when tickets were free ... and I also remember them going "up" to $2!

My husband also camped out for our PoulanWeedeater Independence Bowl tickets. And it was freezing cold. AND they sold beer in the stadium!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS is a special year!

I landed my first 'real' job post-grad from LSU a year 1/2 before that Indy Bowl...I mentioned at a staff meeting how excited I was about the game, and the Big Boss let me off early to drive over to a friend's house to watch kick off. Everyone at work was pissed that he'd told me I could leave early, but none of the dumb fricks thought it worthwhile to mention the big game to him (he was from Michigan and a HUGE LSU fan).

The Big Boss and I were kindred souls in that we were LSU fans with loooooon memories. He was *cough* a bit older than I (moved to La. during the 60s)...but my parents were his age, so I had been reared on tales of 'long ago' games that were a part of his experience. I mean, I wasn't at any games in the late 50s through early 70s, but my parents were...and those were the bedtime stories I fell asleep to. Even if I was a babe-in-arms in the 70s, I can tell you almost play for play what happened in most games from that era...and those from the decades before I was born. And there was a large gap between my siblings and myself...so on top of my parents' tales from 'long' ago, I was fed tales from the late 70s and early 80s when my siblings were at LSU...the famous USC game and the Washington game where oranges fell from the sky...and Tommy Hodson's first year...yeah, I was a 'kid', but I was as good as there.

So the Indy bowl is a fun memory. But it's a mid-point bump in the entire memories I have of this program.
