Taylor and Rachal are going to hold it down. LSU basketball going to be crazy this year.

Look at our depth chart next year.. Sampson realized he would’ve been a role player at best

I honestly agree. Pure talent and athleticism alone, he looks like a prototypical SG from his highlights and good games. But he was very inconsistent and there probably is a reason WW ran him off.

I honestly think whoever ends up being the very last recruited scholarship player on the bench will be good enough to have started on some of those trent johnson and johnny jones teams.

so theoretically, Our backups are Skylar Mays, Taylor, Edwards, Days, and Williams. That could compete with a low level SEC team next year.

I'm not sure Mays is a back up. Smart will get alot of PT at the 1 and the 2 but WW likes 2-3 guards on the court and Mays played really well down the stretch last year. Taylor looks to have a huge upside and I think he and Edwards split time at the 3(CWW alluded to those 2 playing alot at the 3 in last interview). Taylor has more length and I'm really excited to see him he develop. Edwards brings a tough gritty attitude and can knock down the 3. Of Course having Waters back to lead the team is huge. Can't wait to see what he does with a stronger supporting cast. Is it November yet?

I get the feeling it was somewhat mutual. From a pure physical standpoint I’d love to still have Sampson, any fan would/should. But if he isn’t 100% in with what Wade is trying to do, I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.

I get people thinking Wade may have said Sampson has to step up or get out and thats why he left, but Wade said himself at the end of last season he felt he was at fault for not giving Sampson a role when he came back from injury and blamed himself. So sounds like he's talking in coach speak either way or the other here saying that but also saying "we've upgraded at the 3" etc etc. I highly doubt if Sampson came back and was committed he would not have started in front of Taylor who is a great athlete like Sampson but even more raw. Rachal also just doesnt have an offensive game developed yet. Sampson still would have been the best option at the 3, again, assuming he's healthy and ready to buy in. It could have been Sampson just wasn't feeling the new routines if you will. He certainly got last season off on the right foot, but after that injury, just really wasn't the same player.

We will still be absolutely fine without him because in reality he never became the impact player we all hoped he would. Just never was aggressive enough.

Marlon Taylor is going to be a lot better than Sampson.

Taylor is every bit the athlete at 6’6”, if not better, and is a much better shooter.

I’ll take ban bets he gets the most starts at the 3 this year.

I don't think Mays is a bench player either. Wade seems to really like him.

On another note, did anyone see the picture of Tremont, Mays, Kavell, and Courtese Cooper? I'll have to remember where I saw it, but it looks like they're in excellent shape. All jacked.

If WW didn't suggest he try a different path, he saw the writing on the wall. I read the other day a quote from CWW, I think on Off the Bench, where he said Sampson mismanaged his ankle injury last year? It's a shame, even as a roll player we could have used some more experienced depth. He had a chance to finish his career on a special team, playing meaningful games at the end of the season. Either way, we definitely upgraded on defense, that was always the worst part of his game, hands to the floor all the time, and never knew how to switch or hedge.

I know they’re flexing and all that good stuff, but I remember seeing similar pictures of Waters and Mays last year and they didn’t look anything like that.

“Bench player” has a negative connotation that is misleading.

Pretty sure Mays will backup both the 1 and 2 spots for Waters and Javonte and will get a ton of minutes. This will allow a 3 man rotation at those spots that keeps 2 fresh PGs out there at all times.

We’re deeeeep this year.

Mays is a starter. Smart with those others could have competed with any Trent Johnson or Jones squad.

Switch up Javonte and Mays and this is 100% my feeling. I dont think it matters either way but I think Mays starts. Those 3 guys are going to play 80 minutes combined in any important game.

I agree, those 3 will rotate all the minutes out at the 1 and 2 each and every game needed. Nobody else should see minutes there unless it's garbage time.
