I like Burrow's bravado, but are his coaches confident?

Alabama was better than we were last year.Plain and simple. However, that was about the most pitiful, wimpiest offensive game plan LSU since, well the 2016 Alabama game. That "plan" was a little more legit as Etling's passing was "average" and that Alabama defense was returning passes for TDs all year. Only way the '16 team could win was to hope they turned it over. Fine.

But Joe demonstrated in the Georgia game that he could pass AND run. He had multiple scrambles for big gains. He NEVER ran vs Alabama. The Alabama DEs and or OLB would roar right to the pocket as he never indicated he would take off.

Again, I like his confidence but unless Big Ed and Ensminger stop wetting their pants when they see Saban it won't matter. That game was like a Saturday morning 85 lb team vs the 110lb team.

This is NOT a knock on Burrow in the least. I just want the offensive staff to play Alabama--and everyone -- to WIN and not 'hope for the best.'

I'd love to see the LSU coaches field a confident offense.

If we can protect Burrow sky’s the limit.

Damn you don't popcorn bro??? You live under a fricking rock or something.

Will Joe Brady help LSU’s passing attack turn the corner? Coach says ‘get your popcorn ready’
quote:

“I have high expectations for this offense, I have high expectations for myself and the rest of the players and staff have that,” Brady responded. “I tell people all the time, ‘Get your popcorn ready.’ I believe in this offense. I believe in this system and I can’t wait to show them in the fall.”

There's nothing to worry about, Coach Brady has an outrageous amount of experience running an offense.

IIRC, Myles Brennan had an injury that would have prevented him from playing (or at least, playing effectively) in the Bama game had Burrow gotten injured. It wasn't disclosed at the time, but was revealed at the end of the season when he had not played even though playing him in last 4 games would not have burned his redshirt.

If that is correct, we probably had to game plan around that.

Yes, it's embarrassing we didn't score, but we weren't beating Bama last year. The whole "#freedevinwhite" thing pissed them off, with even Saban joining in with his, "How about we elect to kick their arse," comment. Their defense came here on a mission.

Not likely to beat them this year either, but there is always hope.

Neither beats 1/9/12 for me simply because it was the same plan they used in November.

This seems to be company line every summer. I hope he comes through.

People said the same thing about Billy Gonzales... how he was going to turn Russell Shepard into Percy Harvin and get our offense off the ground. I'll believe the hype when it shows itself on the field consistently.

There should be marked improvement in the offense either way with Burrow coming into his senior years with the same group of WRs he had last year and with Emery hopefully adding an explosive element to our backfield.

Not a knock against Brossette, who had to overcome a serious knee injury and lots of personal trauma to rush for 1000 yards and found a home with the Pats, but he's not the quality of back that we're used to at LSU. I think Emery will be the type of back that we're used to, like Fournette, Guice, and Hill were.

I don’t Think anyone expected Gonzales to have this level of effect on the offense.

Crowton was still very much in charge of that.

Then why are we expected to believe that Brady will have any effect on the offense when Ensminger is still calling all the shots? The situations are identical. They even both received the same "passing game coordinator" title.

Much like Gonzo, who was aided by having four future NFL players at WR (Shepard, Randle, OBJ, and Landry), Brady is going to have similar talent to work with in Jefferson, Chase, Marshall, and Dillon (who I'm expecting to make a big jump this year).

Keep in mind...THIS is the meat of your post, and honestly...why would any rational person disagree with it?

Be excited...be positive...but until it ACTUALLY HAPPENS with consistency on the field where it matters, we're just arguing about whether wishful thinking is better than being pragmatic and taking a wait and see approach.

Yeah Shepard was super effective on offense. In 4 years, Shepard posted these numbers:

2009 - 5 catches for 34 yards & 0 TDs
2010 - 33 catches for 254 yards & 1 TD
2011 - 14 catches for 190 yards & 4 TDs
2012 - 6 catches for 92 yards & 0 TDs

Hell, even the Gonzo years were only 47 catches for 444 yards & 5 TDs

Ohhh, the coaching staff in the off-season saying "things 'bout to change!" That's new.

How about they actually deliver?

I'm hopeful, but I'm always hopeful in July/August.

I think We’re in 2 different situations.

Nothing at the time was indicating that Gonzales was making major changes to the playbook.

O E and Brady are all saying Brady is making major changes to the playbook.

I have little doubt that the offense will change. My "wait and see attitude" is in the production of the offense. Both the 2017 and 2018 offenses changed from the previous year and neither was dynamic or prolific. If Brady is everything people are saying that he is and he's allowed to implement all of these new wrinkles, we all better have our popcorn ready.

Brady is the main reason I'm hopeful. Last year's offense with Slinger wholly in charge and Orgeron leaning on him? No. I think the offense improved last year in some spots, but that's because we upgraded at QB.

With Brady, if he's given enough rope, we have potential to actually change the offensive philosophy from the core up. High risk/reward on O's part, which is fine with me at this point.

I've still got a bitter taste from the entire Matt Canada handling by O. But, maybe O will let Brady do what he wants even if September is bumpy.

First off, let's be honest instead of cherry-picking statistics. Shepard didn't exclusively catch passes.

2009 - 50 touches for 311 yards, 2 TDs
2010 - 65 touches for 480 yards, 3 TDs
2011 - 21 touches for 242 yards, 4 TDs
2012 - 26 touches for 253 yards, 1 TD

He played behind several guys that had multiple years in the NFL and turned his own production into a six-year career in the NFL as well. Say what you want, but he's done alright for himself.
