For some of the fanbase that is in denial about the current state of the LSU program here is a summary of the message out of Atlanta:
the "eyeopener" about an annual media event is that by now most adults see them for what they are; media hype. pre season projections mean nothing. sure, bama's probably gonna win. but some reporter announcing that auburn, msu and a&m are better than LSU this year is balderdash. and I would say that if they picked LSU to win it or come in second.

What do you think would be a good year record wise pops?

How about a new playoff system? Herbstriet picks vs Connie Rice's picks. Winner plays media "dazed" picks or winner of Chicago Trib's picks. Ultimate winner gets Fiendumb. Environmentalists love it ..no exhaust fumes spent going to all those games. Dewey wins...

It's amazing how much stock people put in what some media person thinks.

Most of media could name more than two players on the team. They hear the narrative that lsu is ranked #120 in the nation in returning starters...and they roll with it. They don't bother to dig deeper. It is really just that simple.

Fake news. Nobody knows until they kick it off

Being a former player is neither necessary nor sufficient to develop a reasonable opinion of how good a team will be. If you were a former player, capable of assessing your former teammates responsibly, you would know that...

And with that said you choose your own agenda and bias as to how things will go.
I choose to believe that we'll be a damn good football team.

An unbiased opinion is not the same as an informed opinion. Do you really think people outside the state know what’s going on with this team better?? This is a silly thread. No one knows anything. We will know after week 1

You actually believe some Joe blow from timbuktu knows "in-depth" what LSU really has? I'll go out on a limb and say we don't finish worse than 3rd in the west. That's where we finished last year and everybody thought the sky was falling then. We'll be better on both lines because of experience and depth and I'll venture to say qb play will be a step up from last year. The question mark is does the offense get on the same page and if they do this team will exceed expectations.

I believe the 2018 LSU season can be great, I LOVE the depth of this roster, I love that Joe Burrow will bring that live arm , leadership and toughness here, I love that O filled some gaps in the off-season, I love that we are killing it in recruiting, I love that we get the big stage against The U in week one, that we get to play all the big boys this year, that Ensminger more than anybody knows the issue with the fans. I just feel WAY more optimistic than almost anybody I see here . I can’t wait. I love this team, a young team, a year away from being a championship contender with nearly everybody coming back.

Preseason polls mean very little,
Final rankings mean everything.
No, we aren't where we need to be. We just lost a big game(ND). We need to bounce back, but guess what? We have another big game (Miami) on the horizon,
But we aren't the same team that lost to ND. Guys left and guys are coming in, but more important wholesale changes were made especially to the offensive staff.
To sit here and say these changes will be a success or to say they will be a failure is BS. Nobody knows, the media doesn't nor do the fans.
I suggest fans watch to see what happens. Watch to see how we compete, whether or not we play better and then weigh in. Stating things as fact in the middle of a big transition makes no sense.
LSU is the wild card. We could be a big spiller or foul on ourselves. Let's see how we do.

1. Projected 5th in the West. Not 5th in the sec, the secw. That position includes being below MSU.
2. Only 5 players in the 3 Preseason all sec teams. That’s 5 out of 78 and one of those is a kicker.
3. LSU is relying on 2 grad transfers to lead our team.
Means nothing.

Sorry IM4LSU for the downvote, fingers too fast! But I agree with you.

I hope that the SEC media days was an eyeopener by baobabtiger
Agreed...why would we want to sit back and actually enjoy the upcoming season when we can start to stew in our own misery a month before the season starts.
I have never seen a more miserable fanbase than ours...

It should have been an eye opener, but the knuckle draggers on here will throw a temper tantrum when you present facts in a discussion.
