I have to be the only one that thinks we played pretty solid

Outside of two “three and outs” in the 4th quarter in position to put the game away, I thought we mostly played a decent game against a good team.

If not for the catch of the year + a diving catch in the sideline (while being targeted in mid air) both of which were on 3rd down, USC likely scores 13 total points. We moved the ball offensively pretty well and the run game improved in the second half. We just made bad play calls in the red zone.

For me this was ultimately about play calling in a few important situations. Obviously that will cost anyone in a game of tight margins, but I’m not walking away overly concerned about any one position group in our team. This was our best game defensively in probably a year and a half.

we gave up 7.7 yards per play. And were very conservative offensively in the second half. And had far too many penalties, with a couple boneheaded unsportsmanlike calls.

Yes, we had some good things happen too, but the above things were bad.

Let’s see how the coaches and players respond.

We have everything ahead of us to play for, but the margin is slimmer and frick it’s frustrating starting another year 0-1.

We had every opportunity to get this monkey off our back and we added one instead.

No points after the defense (coming off one of the worst seasons in school history) made 2 stops in a row is absolutely unacceptable.

Certainly wasn’t a disaster, just felt like we mismanaged the game and could’ve won.

Honestly I think we looked as complete a team as we have had since 2019. The offense let the defense down in the 4th. We had our foot on their throats and we let them off.
I’ll say USC looked pretty good. They looked like the 2nd best team in the big 10.

Yes you are

Eta: we lost to an inferior team (in terms of rankings) and it's our 5th season opener loss in a row. The last 3 of which are with our current HC.

At season's end, I predict USC will have a top 5 offense and top 15 defense. If they can keep MM healthy they will go deep into the playoffs.

No, I thought we played pretty good. Better than I thought. Just unfortunate that we lost. Only thing I was really disappointed in was the O Line and the run game.

Everybody is bragging on the Defense and yeah they looked improved from last year but that bar was extremely low. They gave up a ton of chunk plays last night. Savion Jones is an absolute monster though.

No he’s not. If it were not for our offensive coordinator playing conservative in the 4th quarter we win the game. This defense is miles ahead of last year’s. Stop bashing this team or go and root for Bama or Texas

Coaches gave the game away. Offensive playcalling and the undisciplined play.

The staff approach was like we had a 20 point lead in the second half. Should have pushed the ball downfield instead of playing it safe.

We played fine. The offensive play calling was horrible

You are not alone.

What you see here is the very vocal minority that have found what they think is a medium to broadcast their (of course) expert opinions on how much LSU, CBK, etc all suck.

Some are narcissists looking for praise, some are trolls looking to provoke, and some are genuinely stupid people.

LSU did play solid. Not great. But solid. The defense was significantly improved in it’s approach. The QB making his first significant start went 29/38 with 300 yards, two TDs and only one meaningless int. Otherwise, that was the only turnover.

The kicking (not as much the punting) was fine. LSU forced two fumbles…unfortunately they bounced directly to a USC player. Young players on defense showed flashes. USC simply made the big plays when they had to make them. They took advantage of LSU’s biggest weakness (secondary) and bullied what LSU thought was their biggest strength (OL).

Now LSU has five weeks and four winnable games through the rest of September. If they can improve the areas where they struggled last night October could be fun

We had like 5 opportunities to get the ball off of turnovers and failed every time.

Marking this as a perfect post, and a place emotionally where most fans should be, or end up, on the issue.
