I understand...I've been a fan since '57 and it needs to stop...eventually will ruin the game.

Me too, 65 years exactly. Grew up in the first house next to Tiger Stadium so had little choice ;)

And that's the problem. If it were not for choosing LSU or any other school for that matter no one would know who the little prima donna is.

I won't call you a Boomer, but I will call this a boomer take. No disrespect, but you did imply that you've got a few dozen Decembers behind you.
It's not realistic to bring in a top 5 recruiting class of players that "WANT TO BE AN LSU TIGER," versus wanting the best for themselves and their careers.
What you're asking for is a team full of 3 star players that is a fixture in the Texas and Outback bowls.

He is just voicing his frustration, College football is a shell of what is used to be.The game has changed the experience has changed and the athletes have changed. Its to me movement, very few of them care about LSU, they only care about money. More and more will get money, come to LSU, jump in the portal and then get more money from who ever will pay them.

LSU processes players. Also, I’m pretty sure the contract is a one year commitment for both sides.

Burrow...it will probably be the last championship I will witness and I am very appreciative of Joe Burrow and Joe Brady bringing that to my alma mater. Nothing more than that.

I just always felt that you should be able to transfer to any team except in your division, hell even conference.
If all LSU players transferred to Ohio State, USC, CLEMSON etc etc every year so be it.

a lot of these kids are just passing through. they don't love the game. they are looking for that signing bonus with the NFL. Now, they have a right to look out for themselves. I am not criticizing them, just observing what is. in the old days, guys loved the game and were thrilled to get a scholarship to play, and if they were good enough to get paid in the nfl, they were on cloud 9.
this is just the way it is, though, for a lot of these kids. it's all about the payday. you just have to understand and accept it.
what do you do if you're the coach. do you pass on a supertalented kid if you can see he's just there for what he can get, but doesn't love the game and have the heart for his team and teammates?
that's why they need to give these players 5 years to play with another year for a redshirt year if necessary. this rule is for the student/athlete. guys who need 3 years to develop to contribute for 2 years. sooner or later it's going to shake out like basketball - one and done. you are seeing the early stages now - guys not playing in the bowl, and even skipping their 3rd year.
how can we get back to the student/athlete? i don't think we can, other than the 5 year eligibility rule. the black athletes aren't the same as the black athletes of yesteryear, who were thrilled to play the game. again, please don't accuse me of criticizing these guys. it's just a fact. i don't like it for the game's sake, but i do not blame these young men for wanting to improve the economic condition of themselves and their families. it is not necessarily selfishness.

Grew up in Ohio, went to Ohio State. Literally only came to LSU cause he wasn’t going to play at Ohio State. You think this dude really gives a shite about LSU and act like he spent all his years there.
Like two people come on this post make reasonable points, and get shite on. Basically how this board works. Say ridiculously dumb shite that makes no sense, most of the board agrees. Say smart, reasonable shite, and you’re probably on your own.
I’ve had a blast watching so many idiot snowflakes melt about the NIL and it’s ruining everything. Keep it up fellas.

Because those were the rules and people were dumb as shite back then and just did what they were told.
What we are seeing now is the same group of people who always complain any time shite changes.
I remember that football player years ago who was a skier I think. He had to quit football cause he needed to take on sponsors to train for Olympics but taking sponsorship money made him ineligible for football.
It never made sense. Regular students can have jobs and go to school. Sponsorships are just you making money off your name.
And as other people have pointed out, schools don’t always fulfill the scholarships they offer for 4 or 5 years. They are one year contracts and kids can get scholarship pulled cause a coach found a player he likes better.
The only people who usually go to schools for the love of that school are people in the state who grew up wanting to go there. Stop expecting everyone who goes there to fill the same. Ricks is from California for Christ’s sake.

It's just dumb to say this when the best player in LSU history didn't originally choose to become a Tiger.
