I think you, along with many others, are not looking at the whole picture of those defending OBJ. Speaking for myself, this is how I feel: OBJ did something stupid in the heat of the moment thinking it was funny with the money. The security guard was giving LSU players massive shite and OBJ tried to take his attention away and embarrass him (Not ok, but he wasn't being malicious...immature and dumb absolutely).

Overall, the guy has been incredible for our program. Our players absolutely love him. The coaches clearly love him. He has never been arrested for drugs or beating women or owning guns, etc etc. His biggest problem is that he has a vibrant personality and speaks out candidly about how he feels after games. He absolutely loves LSU. He is a fan like I am. He has done more for this university than 99% of alumni. I also can assure you that he is embarrassed and probably feels bad that this came back on LSU. You don't write off some of your most successful alumni because of a SMALL mistake they made in the heat of the moment.

TL;DR- don't excuse the actions, stupid of him, he's not some horrible person that should be banished forever.
You really don't have a clue. You're blinded with OBJ glasses.

How many of you couillions would have embarrassed LSU if the national spotlight were on you on Monday night?

That’s exactly what some people are saying.

Not your asinine point....but that the spotlight wasn’t on him. At all. He moved from being allowed to witness up close to the spotlight in a leap.

It wasn’t like he was acting goofy on the sidelines

He was doing everything he could to keep the players from getting arrested by a rent-a-cop, seems like a something a good big brother would do.

If you look at the video, he also throws a piece of trash at the rent a cops face.

Future success of LSU football/athletics won't be affected by Odell's actions directly. The real question is how can anyone defend the NCAA.

Agree with some of what you said, but OBJ does not strike me as someone that is ever embarrassed by his actions.

And, I am not sure paying players in front of cameras and getting the NCAA to investigate it is a "small mistake".

I saw OBJ running around all over the place after the national championship on the field. Slapping people. Unhinged. Honestly I thought he might get arrested on the field. All before the locker room craze.

It helps in recruiting these young bucks having NFL players including OBJ around. Yes, he was out of line with the cash and the slapping the cop, and he will pay for it. I am sure Coach O will let him know that BS can't happen again, and he will be given a short leash, but he will not be banned.

Agreed. Lots of former players were at the game, yet we didn't see any of them interjecting themselves on the sidelines and the locker room handing out cash, slapping security guards etc. You can be excited, see Marcus Spears or Ryan Clark, but not act like a complete arse.

Some are confusing not thinking he's the antichrist with defending.

Odell is apart of the Tiger family. He needs some help as the fame has really affected him. I’ll be praying for him

This is the absolute best response I've seen someone post on the situation.

What part of taking it too far do you not understand?

No melt here — I agree that in terms of NCAA violations it’s ridiculous and shouldn’t be a big deal, and that OBJ didn’t have any ill intent. The problem is that all those things are a completely separate issue from the current reality, which is that the NCAA views the situation differently and they can make things difficult because of that. As a former collegiate player OBJ has no excuse for not being aware of this. It doesn’t matter what makes sense, or how the rules might change in the future, or whether he meant well, or whether he lives in an Odell-centered fantasy bubble where this is NBD, because none of that changes the situation that a whole bunch of other people have to deal with now. That’s all there is to it.

My kids are young and impulsive and get excited about all kinds of things. In spite of their age and the fact that I’m not overly hardass, they rarely take things this far because they know actions have consequences even if you truly didn’t mean for anything bad to happen. On the few occasions they do, they know better than to even talk about excuses until after things have been cleaned up or set right. If I can expect that (and generally get it) from people who can’t even get into a PG-13 movie alone yet, I don’t see why a 20-something professional athlete should get a pass.

He DID NOT interrupt O's speech. That video, shockingly, was edited by the LSU video staff which kinda makes it look like it was during his speech. Multiple people in the locker room have said that O asked OBJ to say something
