re: I don’t know who will be the next LSU HC but I can tell you who won’t

You don’t pass on your 1st choice coach bc the timing for the 1st year sucks.
I can’t say that when I was younger and less seasoned that I wouldn’t put more emphasis on keeping a recruiting class together, but over time I’ve rarely, if ever, seen it work out.
I would absolutely sacrifice a top class first season for the right coach. The quality of players can be addressed very quickly, whereas you’re going to be tied to that HC hire for years.

Philly has spoken - thank the lord

Totally agree. I don't understand the Kiffin or bust people. We just got burned giving a big contract to an attractive name so we're going to... give an even bigger contract an attractive name? I don't mind Kiffin but it's stupid to say we have to chase a big name
Exactly my thinking I feel like I’m taking crazy pills seeing folks saying we should go all in on kiffin. I’m not a fan of potentially throwing another fat contract on a sexy name we just did that and got burned spectacularly with Kelly. If we’re being real Kelly had a more successful coaching background resume then kiffin.kiffin has never even been to a playoff game as a head coach Brian Kelly has multiple times along with a national championship . Hopefully new President we bring in realizes we gotta have variety in our coaching search big name hunting only is the wrong mentality

You got as much chance of getting Lane here as getting Saban to come back zero
I bet we can find post of you saying there is zero chance Kelly is fired this year too.

I will also drop this. Every list or talk I’ve had with a booster always ends in the same “don’t overthink it, it’s Kiffin”

Also went as far as saying there’s no chance they hire a G5 guy
They're gonna frick this one up too aren't they? Just hire the right man for the job. Maybe its Kiffin, maybe its a G5 HC or a coordinator.
But it sounds like they're going to put these pride driven limitations on the search and lock in on one guy. LSU has to make a big splash, go hire the biggest name we can buy. We're not even gonna consider some low level G5 scrub. No way. And a coordinator? No chance.
Just do a proper search and vet the drive and program vision of every option.

Sumrall would be a good hire.

Riley to Kelly feels like Kiffin to Franklin. Hopefully Woodward doesn’t make the same mistake twice.

Or maybe you’re a Tulane fan who doesn’t want to see your coach stolen?? If LSU wants him, he’ll be in BR. I just don’t know if they want him.

they make the playoffs and make a run, are we supposed to let LK hold us hostage until he decides ?
Not to mention the early signing period.

I’m gonna let Greg Ballard know because when I talk to him today, that’s not what he said so I’m sure he’ll appreciate the update.
You mean Scotty? You trying to name drop and don’t even have the right name?

100% and just remember that Austin Thomas has a lot of say in the roster and can handle things until the new coach is signed. It won’t be perfect but it’s much less dire than years past.

Then who?
It will be Frank Wilson for a year in that case. I’m sure that conversation has already been had.

Thank God I don’t want him!

Lane should just do it.
Posted on 10/27/25 at 7:06 pm to Phillytiger9
I hope it’s Lane Kiffin. It’s the only hire that makes sense.

Florida man says " Florida as a university has twice the endowment of lsu…$2 billion vs $1 billion. We also have twice as many alumni. It’s just a matter of how much commitment the administration decides to make in football. We have no problem competing with LSU if we desire. I would argue that location still makes Florida the better job."

Why are yall assuming Kiffin would even want this job?
