I am an exception in that I liked PM. Hated to see him go and didn’t care for JJ. It was nothing he did…He just wasn’t PM. Now, some will say I’m crazy for appreciating PM. Maybe so but the man was a good Coach and represented LSU well. Yes he made some mistakes toward end of his tenure but what Coach doesn’t?
But, he’s gone. I think Johnson did about as well as he could with this team. He absolutely had no pitching to work with. He had to put-slug everyone. You can’t do that every game.
I’ve been a Tiger fan since the 70’s. Yes I made some reactionary posts but when I get TD I do it to talk sports not get into name calling.
I trust Scott Woodward. He believes Johnson can get LSU back to hosting and winning in the post-season so I will give him time.
I hate that the season was over. The Tigers were 1 run away from the Supers. That’s pretty good considering how weak the pitching was. Geaux Tigers!

I was going to downvote here but you do make valid points. I appreciated everything PM did here but it was time for him to go. I wasn’t thrilled about the JJ hire, but what I have seen this year is that this guy knows baseball. I have no doubt he will get it done here. The ONLY thing that is very concerning to me is that his teams at Arizona where subpar defensively. Let’s hope that trend doesn’t continue here because this year’s defensive team was God awful!

PM was a great coach, but he got too old and lost the fire to win. And inthink alot of that had to do with his dad passing

At lsu you are expected toncompete for national titles every year, not be average. And that’s what he was the last few years

I liked Paul. Still do. I was ready for him to go at the end. I liked Johnson from the first press conference. I have confidence in him.

It bothers me how so many of our fans have to hate every coach.

I liked Paul as well, but honestly, since the near miss in Omaha in 2017 I think he basically started phoning it in. Work ethic may have dropped off and I am guessing he put too much on his underlings.

It's the Rant so why apologize. It is fair to say that most of us have gone on an asinine rant on this website at least once. It's to be expected TBH.

I disagree with the OP on Paul. He was a decent coach in the begining but made way too many bad in-game decisions. LSU waited 3-4 years too long to get rid of him.

Johnson seems to make really good in-game decisions and won't hesitate to pinch hit for a star that is in a slump. He did well with the make shift pitching staff we had this year. Hopefully he has more talent next year to work with so he doesn't have to make as many in-game decisions on pitching as he did this year.

Let's hope Scotty did his homework b/c JJ's records have been less than stellar

Career Head Coaching Record (entering 2022 season)
317-172 (.648, nine seasons)
at Arizona: 208-114 (.646, six seasons)
at Nevada: 72-42 (.632, two seasons)

I'd wager that one of the new coaches allowed is strictly for the defensive side of the game.
I'd work on emulating Ron Washington and his drills - short of the pack a day nails habit - if I was going to apply.
Might look into some kind of input into the catchers from Mike Basso/Brett Mayne or some such. An average catcher at LSU should be closer to Milazzo than McManus.

Well if we played then again we’d probably win 1 of them with any coach including jj . Just the way it went . I would have liked our chances again it just didn’t happen . The pitchers pitched the worst games of their careers. That likely doesn’t happen again regardless of the coach

I feel bad for Hilliard. Pitched his heart out all year till he just ran out of gas. He's a great Tiger.
