Anyone really think Miles would be successful at Michigan? Urban would own him on game day

Like Meyer owned Miles while at Florida?

They were 3-3 against one another while leading equally talented teams/programs, much like it would be at OhioSt-Michigan.

Whether they want to admit it or not, Miles would be the best hire for them at this point, including the Harbaughs. Michigan man thru and thru, recruiting experience in Michigan (Cass high), recruiting contacts in the South, worships and almost channels Bo, has NC hardware, won't jump ship, can bridge older and younger fan base, and will instill the traditional Big Ten style of winning football for at least 6-8 years, leaving things much better for the next man up. May parlay that success into a future AD position should the timing be right. Not sure the past and politics will allow it but seems like an easy call. You make strong offer, he accepts, can say you went after your first choice and got him away from "THE" best conference/division in college football. He goes back home to finish up his career. Everyone wins. Just don't think he will ever get that chance.

Jimbo would be closer to the non-existent sure thing as we could get. Has the NC hardware and other benefits that were pointed out in an earlier post. Also would fit personnel we currently have very well. Patterson would be worth a look. Mora is intriguing but not real sure about him at LSU. I think there are good coaches out there that prob would not be the best fit. Think Dantonio is one. Think Fitzgerald is another. Think Jim McElwain at CSU is another one to watch with more seasoning as a HC. Best bet is for Miles to stay and tweak things going forward. Be interesting if he gets that first real offer from UM.

Michigan never offered Miles the JOB

No school ever offers the job until the not offered coach agrees to accept the not offered job.

Really, how naïve are some of you guys?

Les is not leaving until he owns the most wins in school history. Then, he will become the AD and hire a coach just like himself to piss of the idiots even more.

If I had to pick a coach to replace Les, it would be Shaw. I know, chances of coming here would be slim.

Every time I read "Michigan never offered", I ask for sources. So far I've got nothing in return.

It's just third stool from the door bar talk.

Gray Tiger I used to believe the rumor, That Miles had accepted but told Michigan if it leaked out he would back out. Ive heard from several "legit" sources that say there was bad blood between Carr and Miles or somebody up there with some major pull. So who knows. But make no mistake Miles will take any fair offer from Michigan.

Dantonio- Great fit
Schiano- Bridge hire
Patterson- A distant third from your list.

Dantonio would be a great hire. We had a previous head coach from Michigan State that turned out to be pretty good while he was here.

What happened with Gary Moellers wife that you alluded to?

Everybody has "legit" sources.
Strange they never seem to come out of the dark with any actual proof.

Miles isn't leaving IMO (he won't get offered), but if he were to leave/Retire in the next few years, LSUs list of candidates needs to include:

-Chip Kelly
-Jimbo Fisher
-Jim Mora
-Gary Patterson
-Greg Schiano
-Rich Rodriguez
-David Shaw
-Art Briles
-Mark Dantonio

would Sumlin be on the short list down y'all's way?

this is not directed at you specifically but the board overall, because its fascination with sumlin is insane. Miles gets no credit whatsoever from many on here for the first few years because it was all "saban recruits", whatever the frick thats supposed to prove. he went 11-2, 11-2, then won a NC.

sumlin inherited a team with these players already on the roster:

Johhny Manziel (QB) - Heisman winner
Mike Evans (WR) - 7th pick in the 2014 NFL draft
Jake Matthews (OL) - 6th pick in the 2014 NFL draft
Luke Joeckel (OL) - 2nd pick in the 2013 NFL draft
Cedric Ogbuehi (OL) - projected top 5 pick
Christine Michael (RB) - rivals 5 star

you could easily argue that this is actually better than what Miles was handed (the 2004 LSU team played 4 ranked teams and went 1-3).

Sumlin went 11-2, 9-4 (which easily could have been 8-5 if not for a pick 6 in the final 3 minutes to beat Duke, yes Duke, 52-48), and theyre 5-2 now, with bama, auburn, LSU and Missouri (who beat them last year) still to play. dont be amazed if they finish 6-6.

so please, anyone, please explain how sumlin is somehow better than Miles. at what?

The only ones I think we'd have a legit shot at.

-Rich Rod wants to build something at Arizona
-Briles doesn't want to leave Texas
-Fisher coming here would just be a linear move. Makes no sense.
-Shaw is at his alma mater, he probably won't leave unless for somewhere like Notre Dame

Mora might consider, but I really don't want him, neither do I want Schiano.

No one can explain it. Miles is way better than Sumlin if we are comparing actual bodies of work. Subjective bullshite based - well that is another story
