Hypothesis; coaches know we can't pass block, spent second half working on max protection

Only thing I can come-up with other then general incompetency (still an option here). They know Auburn will be getting leverage on us most of the game next week so spent 2nd half running max protect to work on it.

Still, not a happy game. As always, Geaux tigers

Edit -> not a defense of the way we played or even saying it was a good idea...just a thought

If LSU goes max protect and tries to run 2 man routes against Auburn it's going to be a bloodbath.

So you're saying that they were just PRACTICING max protection because we'll need it against AU?

Brother, we needed it last night. It wasn't practice, it was self defense! Against a cupcake!

LSU hasn’t shown any level of mastery of any aspect of any kind of offense.

Anyone that thinks we are holding back or saving our REAL abilities for Auburn is just in denial.

You work to get better in games like these.
You don’t hide things you have never even executed in a game.

I would like to believe cosches that have been coaching for decades know better than me. But hell i could go out there and call better plays than they called last night. Aranda is great and thats it. I hope like hell the people that say “we try not to show our hand” is right. I saw better playcalls against Miami, but its ashame when they got 3 and out against us the entire 2nd half and we couldn’t even get them in a 3 and out.

When we went max protect against Miami, we threw the routes that Flynn was wanting. Go watch our first FG drive in the second half. It was almost exclusively max protect. That stuff is in the playbook. I have no idea why they didn't run it last night though.

We ran max protect to keep Burrow from going to the ER.

He said slants and screens were 50x more effective against a heavy rush than max protect. It's on twitter.

I agree. After the first quarter, they knew there was no way the game would be close and went max protect and went completely safe.

In a sure win situation like SLU, coaches will work on things that need improvement, break in new schemes/sets/personnel, etc. Players are often thinking rather than reacting. That slows them down but its necessary.

I am confident Aranda's unit will improve as the season goes. I'm worried about the offense. I hope Ensminger is a teacher who has a plan and develops players to execute his plan. Calling plays is not teaching.

Screaming, "you fricked up," or "lets go" is not teaching.

And it did not work. Period. Net results show that it did not work. Did not work with Miles (any OC) either when the opponent knows you're passing. Didn't work last night (against lesser talent). Will not work in the future.

If the goal is to save Burrow, then do quick passes, anti-blitz passes (e.g. screens), and move the pocket. That shite might actually work as far as the objective: use clock by getting first downs and maybe even score.

Anything is possible. We really should let things play out before getting mad. But it’s fun to be mad. And also bc we’ve seen this movie before.

Watched the replay this morning. We were running max protection schemes in the 2nd quarter. Running two man route passing plays agaisnt anywhere from 4-6 DB’s.

The entire idea that we fired the last village idiot that wouldn’t adjust from this antiquated recipe for defeat, fired a renowned offensive guy and promoted a guy whose go to adjustments in scheme are to mimic the last village idiot’s adjustments in scheme is grating.

To see a kid in his early 30’s who’s spent a decade in the league pointing out the way you adjust without max protect so you can still use multi receiver sets should throw back the shade on the genuine issues all of the alleged negatigers had when we hired a guy with a two decade gap since his last Coordinator stint.

We fired the last guy for failing to turn the page schematically. Now we have a guy who promoted someone specifically to flip right back to the pages we wanted to move past.

Went into max protect thinking they’ll still run over the cupcake. Couldn’t do it.

I’m not happy but you’re definitely welcome.

Flynn was short and sweet on Twitter last night. He even prefaced it by saying he loved LSU. He sees it. His takes are beyond reproach. Kid has worked with multiple Super Bowl winners and NFL MVP QB’s for years. Has rings and millions to show for his ability to grasp the bleeding edge of professional football. Not sure we have the same feel for the game between our headsets.

But our scheme is a bad dream...one we have seen before. Our tendencies we are putting on tape make us look like meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
